Way to go, Ed! That one has a lot going on with clear color, the watermark, teeth, but pretty throat. I can see why it got your attention.

Ed... Not the seeds fault. It was a brutal Winter here. I lost at least 6 registered daylilies, two of which I never, ever got to see bloom. Marina del Rey was one of them. As far as sdlgs. go I lost about 9. I was so depressed about this, I almost gave up my love of daylilies. That is, until, they started to bloom again several weeks ago. Some of these sdlgs. take 3 yrs to bloom. I have one sdlg. this summer that will bloom that I planted last July that is going to bloom in several weeks. That is really the exception, almost a miracle. When you live 2000 ft above sea level on the middle of a mountain, with very steep terrain and a ton of bedrock, it's a miracle that I have done so well. I thank God and the Universe every minute of everyday for there graciousness in blessing my gardens with such beautiful flowers. Turning a ski slope into a daylily garden has been hard fought but so gratifying on a day like today in July. Ed, I have willed your seedling that I planted today to survive and flourish. I have changed its location. Fingers crossed.

Now then. I have just several sdlgs to show.

Sdlg.Gaskins 'Mardi Gras Ball' X 'Carol Todd'. 2 yr.old sdlg sent to me by Mary Gaskins as a gift plant. Extremely vibrant and bold, and still settling in here. Bloom 6” Scape 28” Four Way Branching. The eye and edge are a bright red.

'Bridey Greeson' X 'Blue Eden' - After studying my notes on my sdlg. garden this is the correct name for this cross. It has languished in the bed for 3 yrs. Finally, it decided to bloom this summer. This is the 2nd bloom appearing this morning. It's coloring is so unusual and bold, you cannot miss it in the garden. The edge is classic Bridey Greeson - double blue violet and white. I am very impressed with this sdlg.

Thank-you, Becky. The 9 sdlgs.. I lost were babies, planted only 6 months before Winter blasted Vermont with 2 months of sub zero temps. The plants don't mind the snow. They actually thrive in the snow cover. It's those below zero temps for such a long period which did those baby sdlgs. in. Also, those sdlgs. were in a new bed, not in the main sdlg. beds. Last Winter was really an enigma here in Vermont as far as the weather. I have heard on CNN that next Winter will be an El Nino year, and that the northeast will not be experiencing the dreaded Polar Vortex. Much warmer Winter. Probably higher snow totals. I live in a major Vermont ski resort, so higher snow amounts are welcome here. That's also great for the daylilies!!!! Hurray! Hurray!

Alex - I hope CNN this coming Winter weather report is accurate. Sounds like y'all need a winter break from sub-zero temps! I can't even imagine. I run around and cover everything in my yard on the rare occasion we hit near freezing for just a few hours. And there have been unusually cold long Winters here in Central Florida where I lost a LOT of my tropical plants, so I KNOW how devastating it is to lose beloved plants.

Can you believe this? I myself have been puzzled about this until I dug around today and found the tags in the soil. Here are two very different looking flowers from the same cross planted last year in my garden. 2 seeds, same cross, with 2 amazing flowers blooming today. It's all in the genetics, but isn't nature great!! Thumbs up

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Thumbs up Oh yes! Any seeds from that pod would make me a very happy hybridizer. And I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised too with any seedlings you grow! You know how every one here has a "thing" that they like about daylilies. Mine is patterning. I like ruffles, I like teeth, I like spider, UFs, etc. But the patterning is what gets my attention every time! It's MY thing! I don't even have a preference for any particular color. Any color patterning makes me smile! Thanks for that SWEET photo! Big Grin Thumbs up Thank You!

I'm going to have a lot of seedlings blooming next year from Dragonfly Dawn!
DD has not done well blooming wise, the most it's ever had was 5 buds. It had 4 this year.
But hey, 4 blooms = 24 stamens and a lot of pollen!

I might of already posted this one.
Unknown.
I counted 46 bud scars today on this one! Blinking
That's more than I have EVER seen on one of our dayliles.
I'll have to take a good picture of the scape soon, its pretty neat.
It has lots of prolifs too!
It's been blooming since early June, and still has very tiny buds on it.

Ashton - What cross is that? VERY impressive bud count!

I do not have Dragonfly Dawn, but I do have 4 children (that were self-crossed). I also have 2 Laura Mast x DD seedlings. The pattern on all of them got me at Hello (first bloom) and seems to get even better with the additional blooms! Hilarious! Hilarious! I didn't get but a few buds/flowers on each of them though, this first year of blooming. I am sure hoping the bud count and branching improves. Each plant only had 1 fan, so they need another year or two to show me what they really have to offer.

I noted that DD in the Plant Database states 21-25 bud count with 3-way branching. I wonder if anyone here on the forum who has it can verify that it does indeed produce that many buds?

My only other concern with DD is rust resistance. It did have some rust on it, but not much. I am hoping that stays consistent. If not, then I will definitely be crossing it with some rust resistant daylilies.

I will say that my seedlings were all very pollen and pod fertile. So it certainly makes a good parent plant. I did cross 2 siblings and got several seeds. It will be interesting to see what those seeds produce.
