Rick - I agree with you on the ecological responsibility thing. Hate throwing things away. I do put bigger stuff out on the curb for the "junk" guys that scan the streets before garbage pickup. If someone else has a use, they're welcome to it. Otherwise, it goes to a city dump - not so good.

I also hate throwing things away, but since I saw part of one episode of "Hoarders", I FLINCH when I say that.

I watch "Hoarders" every week. It's inspiring. Big Grin Luckily, it airs the day before garbage pickup in my neighborhood, so it helps me fill my trash cans.

That's a good idea, Pirl, and it reminds me that I have a lot of Ben & Jerry's I'll have to finish before garbage pickup day.

I love salted caramel in anything!

I should say something about the topic of the thread, I guess. After years and years of trying and discarding various pruners and loppers, I now use nothing but Fiskars PowerGear Pruners and Black & Decker Extemdable Loppers. The ergonomic design of both keeps my wrists and elbows feeling good even after hours of pruning. They also never seem to get dull. I do spray them with WD-40 regularly, and I think it helps to keep the blades sharp.

Okay, I'm over 50 and I have never met a hose that liked me. I have lived in many places and used many hoses. I've bought many hoses and thrown many hoses away. Every hose that I buy promises not to kink. Lies! All lies! No matter how I take care of them, they turn on me. Cheap hoses, expensive hoses, they're all the same. Eventually, they kink. Why can't someone invent a hose that doesn't kink? I have gone as far as slipping PVC pipe over the kinks and securing it with duct tape. Works fine until it gets damp and slips. Quick connects seemed to be my salvation! But no, they just prolonged the inevitable disappointment.

Find a hose that doesn't kink, mail it to me, and I will guarantee that it will kink in three months....or I'll buy six of them. Thumbs up

Hoses are infuriating. When they say the hose won't kink they're only talking about the first few inches.

I use Flexogen hoses from Ace Hardware and they never kink, but they're twice as heavy as most hoses. Most of mine are 75 feet, but I have one that's 100 feet long, and watering with it is a real workout.

We're about 5 minutes from an Ace Hardware. I will try to get over there tomorrow. Thumbs up Thanks!

Question. Does it have to be from Ace? I see that Home Depot and Amazon also carry Flexogen?

I think any Flexogen hose would be good. I just prefer to give my money to my local Ace. Also, I think the Ace Flexogen costs less than the Gilmour Flexogen Home Depot carries.

I got my Flexogen hose from Ace, too. It's the hose they use in the garden center. I've never had it kink, but I agree, it is heavy.
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

I couldn't stand dragging hoses, so I ran 3/4" polyethylene irrigation mainline around my house. I don't know whether you can kink those or not, but if you never drag it after the day you lay it down, it won;t kink.

I added a Tee fitting with hose threads every so often.
At least one Tee near every bed that might ever want hand-watering.

I added Ys with valves on the Tees.

Attached a SHORT lengths of hose on each Y. Like, the length of the hose is the width of one flower bed. Kinked, cut and frayed hoses can easily be cut up to make many such lengths.

Add a hand sprayer or watering wand to each short length.

That way, no hose ever gets dragged more than a few yards. Every square foot can be reached by at least one hand sprayer.

The bummer is that, once I had irrigation mainline, I put out sprayers too.
Now I hardly ever HAVE TO hand-water.

More Spigots Equal Easier Watering

Why didn't I meet you @RickCorey before I put in my gardenhose system?? I did the very same thing using old garden hoses. I buried them in the yard and put an in ground portable spigot with a faucet 4-day manifold at the end to accommodate a sprinkler, hand watering device and water source to my greenhouse. PVC might have been easier! So far though, the hose has worked for us for 10 years. Even if it got leaky underground, it's only watering my flower beds.

I will be needing to replace my 100ft hose very soon. Thanks for the Flexogon recommendation. I will go right to Ace and get one.

Group hug

PVC lasts longest (rigid pipes that have to be glued together).

"Irrigation mainline" lasts second-longest and it is stiffish but somewhat flexible so it's easier to lay.

I think that Irrigation mainline is around the same price as hoses, but the number and quality of fittings determine the price more than the tubing, unless you have multiple 100-foot runs.

Dripworks sells ½" polyethylene mainline for $16 / 100 feet. That can handle 240 GPH.

They sell 3/4" mainline for $32 / 100 feet, but I've seen cheaper prices locally. (480 GPH)
