I could NOT begin to tell you how much I have learned here. And it is all friendly advice. Some times some of it has to be moderated due to geographical/location differences. But the fundamentals are the same.

I tip my hat to you. Hurray! I tip my hat to you.

The anticipation of this flower bud finally opening is killing me! At least it is confirmed that these really are flower buds...earlier I wasn't certain as these are the first buds on this plant.

Do you sleep at night, KD, or are you up and down, constantly checking on those buds? Whistling

Thank you all, for your compliments and thumbs up! Big Grin

Ken, I don't lose sleep worrying over this guy. I won't venture out at night to check on him...skeeters might eat me alive. Hilarious! But I do check every day...there's a kind of ant that seems to encourage scales and mealy bugs, so I'm having to pick those off when I see them. Glare

That's a great looking plant and pretty flowers. Only 8 mo. old! All my obesum are 9 mo. old and there is not even a hint of "interesting" caudex formations or flowering. Sighing!

Gorgeous plant Kadie and what a treat to get a bloom on this one. A seed grown special, it is. Kudos to you. Hurray!

Yes, Willeke, there are more buds.

Enlarge the image and you will see two buds on the middle stem; there are more buds on one outer stem. Would be so nice if they opened at the same time...then I would be able to try hand pollination to produce seeds.

Ken, this one is an arabicum...the caudexes are larger than obesum. It will be 9 mos. old April 5.

@drdawg
If I had arabicum seeds I would gladly give some to you...but I don't. The seeds for this particular tree were given to me. I had since purchased 10 Thai Soco "Golden Bell" seeds from Adenium Center that I planted Dec. 6, and am experimenting with them.

Allow me to share one of the things that I learned from growing arabicums. Angel Unlike obesums, they take a very long time to recover from transplant shock. They are best planted one each in their own individual 4" plastic pots with your regular potting mix medium, which should also contain a teaspoon of bone meal. Drenching the medium with H2O2/water solution is highly recommended at sowing. Before they outgrow their pot, transplant into a larger container leaving the root ball intact, and adding more media at the bottom and sides of the new pot.
