oh noooooo!
I think, more likely, it opened after you checked it and went to bed and it was closing when you checked it first thing in the morning--

I agree They tend to open up late at night (10 pm and on) and close up before morning. I call them midnight bloomers and it's always an event to stay up late enough to see the blooms fully open and breathe in that fragrance! Smiling

I saw several more buds on another of my EO. I have several large ones in floor pots with tomato cages attached to the (nursery) pots. They have wandered up the cage and are now past the top of the cage. I have to cut them back when they get too tall or drape them over the top of the cage and down again. If I was in zone 10, I'd grow one up a tree in my yard. But it gets too cold here in the Winter and I have to cover them. On the coldest nights, I have to bring them into my garage because they are only good down to about 45 degrees. But they can sure get really tall!

Tara, I do think yours bloomed, you just missed it!! Next time it looks like it did in that picture you posted on the 13., get ready at sundown and watch it open. They're usually fully open around 10 o'clock around here. The only time I ever saw one of those open still at 8 am was on a really chilly morning, it stayed open another half hour and then drooped.

My Epiphyllum phyllanthus is a special case, it did happen more than once that I watched a bud all evening long, even checked on it at night. If it was open bĂȘtween 3 and 4 am I surely missed it. But that one is known to be cleistogamous on occasion, the Epi you posted surely is not.

I agree I agree I agree I thought it may have bloomed on the 13th when I saw the photo.

Next time mine bloom (which will be soon), I will take photos of the sequence of the blooms opening so anyone watching theirs will have a better idea.

I think mine is ready any day. I am going to put it n my car and it is coming with me tonight. I am visiting a friend and will be there for 3 dys. So have olant will travel. This will be the first time I will have seen this one bloom. I had one bloom 2 weeks ago and I missed it. The bloom was in the back of the plant and I did not see the bud, Sneaky little plant. Rolling on the floor laughing

This time it will be 3 and they all look like the same size. So they will probably bloom all at once. I am a night owl and do not go to bed until 3 am - 4 am so I will not miss the bloom.

I am leaving at 11 pm. I can just imagine driving along and it opens on my way to my friends house. I hope it does not startle me. Rolling on the floor laughing I think I will put it in the front seat because I can imagine looking in my rear view mirror and forget it is back there and wreck the car. *Blush*

That looks excitingly ready to show Cinta! I hope it does not mind being moved, I find them rather finicky like my orchids, that hates being moved when in bud and ready. Good luck! Take a photo!!! Big Grin

Okay if you do not hear from me about the blooms check the Pennsylvania news and see if woman wrecked. You all are my witnesses to explain the cause.

Woman....crazy, Crazy Plant lady did not want to miss a plant blooming. She put it in the car and was intoxicated from the fragrance and died on the road. Strangely she had a big smile on her face. Hilarious!

I had more blooms open on my epi. This is the sequence of photos:

The morning of it opening later that night:

Thumb of 2015-08-20/beckygardener/7a66df

Later in the day before sunset (you can see the tip of the petals starting to open):

Thumb of 2015-08-20/beckygardener/7f6ac9

Notice that it is still curving upwards:

Thumb of 2015-08-20/beckygardener/25e95f

10:45 pm that night:

Thumb of 2015-08-20/beckygardener/519447

Thumb of 2015-08-20/beckygardener/07aae2

Later at 1:15 am (you can see that it doesn't open any further):

Thumb of 2015-08-20/beckygardener/282984

The next morning around 8 am (notice that it is hanging downward now):

Thumb of 2015-08-20/beckygardener/69e00e

A day later (it is shriveling up):

Thumb of 2015-08-20/beckygardener/dff211

So .... if you have a bud on this particular epi, be aware that it actually opens up very late at night. I missed the first few blooms years ago because I had no idea it bloomed so late at night. Other epis bloom during the night as well and many hybrids bloom during the day! The timing is pretty critical because it only blooms for a few hours before it starts wilting.

Cinta, good luck! Hilarious! Hope it doesn't knock you into a ditch!

Becky! Hurray! What a beauty! Thanks for the "time-lapse" on it. It's obvious now that I did miss mine...Totally! Sad
Tells me that it's a bit of a "diva"!

Think I may never see/smell one. I'm one of those early to bed, and early to rise. (omitting the 'wise' part purposely) Hilarious!

The nick-name for that epi is "Queen of the Night" ... so .... she is definitely a party girl late into the evening. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Thumbs up

Okay, I am still alive and waiting. I thought it was going to bloom last night I was up untill 3:30 am. Not unusual for me because I am a night owl. But no luck. I had the camera ready.

Aug 17th at 7:00 pm.

She is buckled up and ready to go. I even put the seat belt on her incase she decided to do something crazy. Hilarious! No really her mommy would do something crazy. Everyone tells me I drive like a race car driver so I never know when we might have to make some crazy turn on two wheels and she would tip over and break a bud so I buckled her in. *Blush*

So tonight I will be up again until the wee hours of the night, camera ready.

Cinta - Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing You are too funny!!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Is this the same plant as mine? If it is, it isn't ripe enough yet to bloom. It should look more like my photos to know that it will be blooming that evening. Check every night, to make sure, but I think you have a couple (or more) days to go if your plant is the same as mine.

Can't wait to see YOUR photos!!!

Becky, if you think I am funny you should have heard my friends when they saw I was traveling with a plant. They asked me "Has it finally happened that no one else will get in the car with you but a plant that cannot run? " They said the dog and cat were hiding so I could not bring them. I have to constantly remind them that they have all wrecked and totaled their cars at one time through the years but I have not.

I am not sure if it is the same plant. I only saw the bloom after she bloomed all sneaky. It was in the back and I never saw the bud. I saw something white hanging down from behind her and when I looked it has closed for the day. These three came up and I started watching.

I cropped one of the buds from the pick above and you can see it a little better. This morning I could see some white and some of the outer darker leaves had pulled back it will probably bloom tonight.
