I see that Totally Tomatoes has some hybrid marriage tomatoes. Both that I am interested in are listed as new in the catalog. The two are Marzinera hybrid which is a cross between San Marzano and Cream Sausage. The other I am interested in is Cherokee Carbon which is a cross between Cherokee Purple and Carbon.

Does anyone know if these two hybrids are completely new and originate with Totally Tomatoes, or have they been tried by anyone here? Thanks.

@farmerdill so I'm a little confused. At the PanAmerican site they list the seeds as *New*. Did they breed them?

And/or are they just being released then, and so that Totally Tomatoes shares in the new release year.

Pan American is a breeder-developer as is Seeds by Design. Lots of retailers carry their products not just TT. You can get them from Burpee, Siegers, Territorial and many others. Most likely an in-house development at Pan American, but they might have obtained rights from an Ag university breeding program. Have not seen any take credit tho.

I had vines like that one year, I put on lots of chicken manure that year, and I had the tallest nicest vines I ever saw, not many tomatoes though! Rolling on the floor laughing

Tom, They produced a truckload of tomatoes. I couldn't give them away fast enough !. This year I plan on putting a top over the fences because they ended up falling back down on themselves. Didn't hurt them, just made it harder to harvest them and made better hiding places for the spiders ! LOL

I think all my tomatoes are going in buckets this year, my current garden must be badly contaminated with blight. 4 years ago I could barely contain the plants, now I have blight before harvest, and I move them every year. I wish I could produce enough steam to treat my garden, then add compost.

Hi folks. Sorry to read about your blight problems. Over here it basically has become impossible to grow tomatoes out in the open because of blight. Unfortunately fungal spores can travel for miles. So even if one has the cleanest garden ever one can still get this problem Sad . Part of the problem here is probably that commercial potato growers aims for earlier and earlier crops under horticultural fleece and then spores from their field eventually infects both potatoes and tomatoes in the garden at a much earlier time than what was usual in the past.

Only reliable organic option here is to grow tomatoes under glass and to make sure that the foliage never gets wet as that will prevent the spores from germinating. This usually works well over summer here, but when autumn comes one can still get a few problems because the humidity is so high. Of course here the summers are often cold so growing in a greenhouse is a good idea anyway. A simple plastic tunnel or similar would work just as well or probably even better for a warmer summer climate. While results never can be guaranteed, my suggestion would be that any protection that keeps the foliage dry would be worth trying.

Got a thumbs up on this post from August 13th. I did buy seeds of the Country Taste but elsewhere.

I am looking forward to growing it.

I had much better luck than normal when I grew some Viva Italia tomatoes inside my hoophouse last summer; they're a determinate type and always seem to be the first to succumb to disease, but they carried on well into the late fall and were VERY productive. Planning to put them in there again next summer. (I'm really not sure that it's actually "blight" that my plants always get -- possibly some type of wilt; I haven't studied it enough to distinguish among them,, I'm afraid.)
