Good warning, Becky Pure cane sugar is the only thing that should be fed to the hummingbirds as far as I know... although I'm not even sure how they make that store bought nectar.

Who in the world would want to feed xylitol nectar to birds???????? Huh?????
It says the homeowner bought the xylitol for a diabetic family member but how crazy can you be to make nectar from it for the birds????

If you haven't seen it yet, a whole bunch of baby spiders have made a giant web in Memphis. This article is really good at explaining how and why it happens. But please note the irony in the resident who thinks the city should spray to kill the spiders because there are children around and they might get bitten. Spraying your children with pesticides - okay! Risking a spider bite - not okay! FYI, the scientist in the article says these spiders do not have mouth parts big enough to pierce human skin. What people don't know about science scares me sometimes.

It kills me (in more than one way) when so many people's first & immediate response is SPRAY IT!!! KILL THEM DEAD RIGHT NOW!!!!!

When we moved up here we rented while we were looking for a house to buy. The place where we were renting was in a 55+ community. You wouldn't EVEN believe the amount of poison in that place!!!! Every single house - each privately owned - had their house exterior AND entire yard sprayed * every * single * month*. We felt like the whole place was toxic. It probably glows in the dark. We lived there 2 years & in that time I never once, NOT ONCE, saw a lizard.
