This article isn't directly related to BBB, but as gardeners, I think all of us are aware of the importance of wearing sunscreen. But apparently, a common ingredient in it is killing our coral reefs. For more information, and a list of sunscreens without the ingredient, check out this article from the Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/...

I can't wear any sunscreen as it does not agree with my skin. I think my skin is telling me something about ALL sunscreens. Whistling

Thanks, Melanie, for that info! I use sunscreen a lot, because of skin cancers I've had, so I just now checked ingredients on what I saw in my cabinet & threw out some products with that ingredient. Will be more careful in the future to buy safer products! Even though I never swim in the ocean and am located pretty far inland, rivers often empty into the gulf, so it still matters.

I know I need to buy some more sunscreen and I'll be sure to check the list for one that doesn't include that ingredient. My dad's good friend is married to a woman who works for NOAA and primarily studies corals. I'll have to tell Dad to ask her about it next time he sees her. UCF was involved in the research which is great. We Floridians need to be making more scientific progress about how to preserve our ecosystems. Also, we can tell the tourists which brands to buy! Thumbs up

I do love that about the birds, many species stay mates for life. Lovey dubby I've had the same pair of Phoebes come back every year for many years to nest uder our porch.

Here's an interesting article about how there are many species of birds are socially monogamous but not necessarily sexually monogamous. Blinking I wonder if that is their way of keeping the species healthy, in an effort to avoid inbreeding.

Likely so.

I saw a dead Cardinal in the road once - its mate kept flying out of the way of cars and then back to the dead mate - back and forth. It brought a tear.
