They should totally make plushies out of it and some of the proceeds could go to research or saving their habitat! I would buy one in a heartbeat!

I thought about how Beanie Babies are making a special Cecil the Lion with proceeds to benefit the park where he lived. I thought this Kingfisher would make a great Beanie Baby; he's naturally adorable!

From the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute: Scientists have compared the diets of two caterpillar species, expecting the one that exclusively consumed plants containing toxic chemicals would more easily incorporate toxins into its body than the one with a broad diet. They found the opposite. The new finding flies in the face of a long-held theory that specialist insects are better adapted to use toxic plant chemicals than non-specialists.

Interesting. When I first read the summary, I thought it was talking about herbicides and pesticides, only to discover it's talking about plants that are naturally toxic! Big Grin Interesting that the specialist caterpillars showed little sign of the toxic elements in their frass, whereas generalist caterpillars did. Aren't Monarch butterflies supposed to 'taste bad' because of all the milkweed consumption as cats? Of course, I guess it could still 'taste bad' even while having the ability to 'sequester' the toxic chemical. Score one for co-evolution!

I'm just always happy to read there are people out there who deal with frass more than I do! Rolling on the floor laughing Although, I won't lie. I think they must have pretty amazing jobs - even if they are analyzing caterpillar poo!
