I hate it when that happens. I have a crippled Ugli tangelo tree that has been trying to recover for three years. Lightening killed my neighbor's 40 foot black cherry tree that was about 30 feet from it and my tangelo went into shock. It dropped all of its fruit and leaves and still has not completely recovered. Scared fruitless. Hilarious!

This year we are hoping to pollard my big willow tree. Then that area will be less dangerous. Maybe there will be a place there for a peach tree.... Whistling

Boojum, Sorry about your peach tree. You have had too many big trees.limbs come down recently so I hope that you got that willow pollard before more of it comes down. Did you bring in all your orchids? Hold on to your hat and get out the gum boots as I think you are going to get Irene roaring up the CT river valley with a lot of rain. We have pulled the sailboat and run more anchors out to the work boat and brought in all the garden furniture and am picking the veggie bed clean as I think most of it will be blown away. Pantry is filled and DH is baking bread today. Foggy out now and weather feels very heavy. Calm before the storm. Be safe all. Patti

Patti,
Of course the pollarding didn't happen, so I'm nervous. All the 500 orchids are in my office now very cozy. Just came back from VT haircuts. East side of the Berkshires are sposta get the most rain-which is HERE! So here I am hanging with the orchids and waiting for the storm to start.

So glad to hear from you and your preparations. Here light furniture is in the small barn. Heavy is turned upside down. Chimes, birdhouses, etc. are inside.

Fingers xed all!

Almost makes me want to be up there with you, Ursula. This storm must be huge as we even got a couple of small rain bands through here this afternoon. I hope you keep us posted at least until you lose power.

Can you believe we're going out to the neighbors for dinner in an hour? Gotta do something when you wait for disasters! Here's a microcosm of my garden. The tall heavy stuff I trimmed.

It makes a lovely bouquet !

I hope the predicted power outages are short in duration, and property damage is light. Stay safe! Group hug
