I'd take them. I couldn't bare to leave my babies to someone who might or might not take care of them.

I'm expecting to be dead before I move again, but if I'm not, I'd have to talk to the new owners and if they didn't want the plants or plan to take care of them, I'd make arrangements to either take them with me or give them to other gardeners I know. "Do you hear that Moby and Lori? You may need to make your beds larger. Much larger!"

It really is sad when people don't at least offer the plants to someone who would enjoy them. Mr Mom, did you not have a place to take the flowers when you moved?

I heard ya, Susan! DH has orders that when I croak he is to "call the girls" to cull the good stuff out the garden.

Angie ~ I've seen it a few times, even when the new owners 'just looove' the garden, eventually let it go or take it all out. When you move, take everything you want! And if you move in winter, leave a clause that you WILL be back for plants in the Spring. It can be done. Smiling
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

I moved in with dad for a few months. It was November by the time we bought our newer house. They started to rip everything out and just stopped mid-process. So now it looks horrible, brush with foot high grass growing in it etc. Grumbling

I was once told to never pass by a house you once cared about, it will only drive you nuts. Having not taken that advice at the time, I now know that to be true. Sad

Hey Rick! I promised pictures of the lilies grown from the seeds you sent me 2 years ago. Here is the very first one to open. Not the best pics, but will try to do better, lol!

Thanks Bev! We all like to see results like this, but it is especially gratifying and useful for us who do the hybridizing.

That's a very nice lily, and the surprise of it all is half the fun! Although, I can't recall making any crosses with such a result in mind.
I try to keep track of what seed I sent to who, but the ones I recorded for you are very unlikely to produce your trumpet. What cross did I send you?

I was afraid that you were going to ask that, lol! I'll have to troll back through those ancient posts to see if I can find that info. These have to be your seed, though I haven't sown anyone else's;)

I already looked through our dmails a daves, and none of the crosses I had originally posted in my giveaways (except L. formosanum in 2007, but I sent you in 2008) would produce a lily at all like that). Now I did sometimes put in some other seed I had extra of, and I am guessing that is most probably what happened, but I didn't record that for you.

What I have written that I sent you was:
L. leichtlinii x L. maculatum var. wilsonii
L. lancifolium var. flaviflorum x L. 'Kentucky'

----
BTW, for anyone who got L. formosanum var. pricei seed from me in 2009, there is a slim chance that it may have crossed with some other trumpet lilies of various decent. If you get anything from that seed with colors other than white with brown/maroon petal back midribs, you will know it was crossed. A result like this could be very special, as it will also probably result with a dwarfing habit (to the plant, not the flower) to boot!

Rick, you have mad record-keeping skills. This lily is quite short. I wasn't sure if this was due to its level of maturity. Whatever it is, I am thrilled with it. I love trumpets and don't have many yet.

Yes, you won't know about the height for another year or two.

Regarding records, they take a huge amount of time, but they have rewarded me time after time when I have need to go back. I have never regretted the time spent. And with computers, it so easy to organize/reorganize them!

I might share a simple abbreviated label system I have developed for my seedlings. This I use for every seed lot I plant, not just lilies. They might be hybrid crosses, seed from the wild, the same seed from different sources, etc. Additional info is added if warranted, but space can be a premium on a short window blind.

This information is on every label:
Botanical Latin name
AAA-BB-CC

AAA = source of seed, often abbreviated, like a person's initials.

BB = the year of seed collection, not when it was received.

CC = the year planted. An "F" might follow if it is fall planted.

Of course, complete information is on my computer.
---
Sometimes I will "raid" the blinds cutting machine at Home Depot. The pieces in the throw away bin are often long enough to use as labels. Such is the label shown, and the rounded edge is already cut for you!

Impressive! I must admit that I wouldn't have thought of raiding the HD for mini blind pieces. I just use the leftovers from where the dog tears them up, lol!

I'm hoping that the others will be more easily identifiable from the crosses that you listed. I'll be sure to post pictures when they bloom. This is very exciting as I wanted to be a good 'parent' to your lily babies:))
