It looks to have great substance too. The amount of dusting is just right and the yellow is about perfect for me ;)

I would like to see all the sibling flowers, both the good and the "bad'.

At our North American Rock Garden Society (NARGS) meeting yesterday, we had Peter Korn give a presentation of his gardens in Sweden. He lives in a little town called Eskilsby, about 24 kilometers from Göteborg. He is a very industrious young man with an incredible, huge garden. Have you heard of him?

Where are you from grapus? Can you tell us a little about yourself?

When the Tangos first came out, I did not like them. Now some of them are growing on me, and my granddaughter just loves them.

Now I wonder if it has a pastry crust like a real pie...
Otherwise, it sounds like meatloaf and ketchup, if it is ground beef.

This sent me on a quest that revealed all sorts of Aussie slang. One said that you often run words together in print (runwordstogetherinprint). For the benefit of readers whose first language is not English, I hope you won't be doing that. Our language is difficult enough as it is. Heck, I had problems just typing that: spaces between words come automatically when I type.

I forgot to welcome you to the cubit, Grapus.

My name is Øystein, are from Norway and are growing lilies in a little harder climate than the most of you. Thanks to Leftwood,Rick, i know Anthony. I really appreciate that. I do some crossing every year and get more seeds every year since i also learn more. The past 3 years i have been sowing daylilies, but since my garden is not unlimited, and i so enjoy seeing new lilybabies open for the first time, i have to restrict the daylilies.

I agree with mags. I have found that having more than one stalk is a pretty sure sign that the bulb has divided.

Yesterday I dug out an oriental "Summer's End" that for the last four years or so has put up four stalks. Sure enough there were four bulbs all stuck together. I wish I would have taken the time to photo some of the amazing stuff I found when digging out my lilies this fall (almost all of them).

Yeah, lily bulbs are awesome. I can't think of any other bulbous plant where I get almost as excited about the bulb as the bloom. *Blush*

Thanks so much. I'll leave it intact. There was only one stalk that came out of it. That one is really big! I think I might have gotten it from you, Tracey.

Thanks for the tip.
Can I shave off some scales from the outer edge to start new ones and is there a special way to do that?
Traci, isn't that what you do?

You can pull a scale or two, getting as much as the basal plate (bottom portion of bulb where roots develop) as you can. I place them in damp soil-less mix and place a heavy book or two on top of them in a dark area and check in in a month or two.

Once, a few years ago, I scaled an entire Conca d'Or bulb. I ended up with a ton of small bulbs that I donated to local gardens and friends. I couldn't believe how many bulbs each scale had produced. I was overwhelmed! But it was great fun!

Yup . . . I pulled off a couple and "after the fact" figured they wouldn't work because I didn't get any of the "basal plate". It's big enough, I can try again. What does the book do? Keep them from crawling out? Rolling on the floor laughing

You know, I just have better luck placing something heavy over them. It may mock the pressure of the soil outdoors. I did some of the Conca d'Or scales that way and some with no pressure. The ones with the books over the top had more than double the production. They also produced sooner than their counterparts.

Can you show an example of what you meant? I am having a difficult time visualizing what you described.
