I'm going to have to do some digging to see how some have multiplied. I think I could supply the world with those mini asiatic ones. I planted them in groups of five to begin with, and they have just blanketed the ground with little sprouts.

And what do you do with them? My neighbors aren't gardeners. Shipping is expensive.

I'm with you Jo Ann ~ I'm a lily lover, but I once had this ugly little asiatic that multiplied worse than the rabbits. Gave away what I could and pitched the rest.
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

If my excess lily bulbs look good and healthy I put them out on the sidewalk and they disappear within minutes. Wouldn't work for you guys out in the boonies though.

Like irises, I don't compost them for myself, though I do put them in the community recycle since they will be exposed to hot composting.

I will try the bulbs at the curb. Someone sent me DL's hich I shared w/ neighbor who dug out 3 grocery bags of Stellad oros to make way for the combinations of peach.lavande,pink.
The bags were gone in less than an hour.

One more thing, I usually slip a note in with them with the name of the plant and how to care for it. For some reason I think my neighborhood keeps an eye one the sidewalk in front of my place during the summer.

OH MY... such lovely pics! I am just getting into the lilies, and am in shock to hear y'all throw the bulbs away, when I am buying many... Big Grin .. I'd pay more than postage if any of you wanted to throw any my way. I live so far in the boonies they have to pump sunshine in, and i doubt i'd ever be lucky enough to see anyone that had been sweet enough to just set bulbs on the sidewalk. What a lovely treat that would be as I am also sure it gives great satisfaction to the giver as well!

Beck...I, too had heart palpitations and had to absorb the concept of throwing bulbs away. I had one that was virused two years ago. Think that was the only one I've ever trashed. Hilarious! Guess while your are new and I've got a few years under my belt, we are both in geographic, climatic or container growing situations where we're not overrun with them propagating.

Had to laugh at your phrase about pumping sunshine in Rolling on the floor laughing

Thanks Barbara.... I guess being from Texas where they say everything is bigger... Big Grin I might have exaggerated a lil on the sunshine... I looked on another forum thinking i'd learn about the virus with the title saying disease. I need to know... you know??? LIL did I know it was about MY disease.. not the lilies... Rolling on the floor laughing I am very interested in any help any one can share with me. I have a feeling the lilies will be my "new" luv for more than just the normal one year.

Oh yes! As stated in the disease thread, there is no cure. The symptoms just get worse. At some point, you will feel you have it under control. The following year, you'll just give up and decide to deal with letting it control you as as much as (and more than) your pocketbook will bear.

A misc. piece of advice, a good habit to get into right from the start? LABEL your pics! I have hundreds of flower pics that I didn't label and won't post because it's "a lily" (or dahlia or whatever), but I don't know who.

Then, when you want to post your babies in the OT thread, you'll know who and what they are. And you WILL want to share pics with the Great Lily Gurus in this cubit. I have tremendous respect for all of them.

BTW...Off topic...Don't get someone from Alaska started on everything in Texas being bigger...(said in good humor)

Edited 3/1 to correct a faux pas.
