I thought with the first Tropical Storm of the year (Emily - look here: http://www.wunderground.com/bl... ) possibly heading our way it would not be a bad idea to start a new thread for this topic. Let's hope we will all be spared devastating losses and damage, this season!
Pictured is Floyd and no, thanks, we won't have any of that!!

And another message from Crownweather, this looks pretty positive for us Floridians
'it is my opinion now that Emily probably will not dissipate, however, it will slowly strengthen to maybe 50 or 55 mph when it makes landfall in Hispaniola late Wednesday night. It is then expected to weaken and will probably be a tropical depression or barely a tropical storm when it moves back over water late Thursday. I do think we will see strengthening up to hurricane strength as it tracks across the Bahamas late this week into this weekend. I think it is too close to call for the east coast of Florida on whether Emily will impact you; it may be way too close for comfort.'

Good Idea Hetty. We can see if anything is coming our way, but as you are quite southerley you can let us know if it comes your way first.

Well, we have entered the period of most tropical activity (August/September) so there will be quite a few of these 'oops' moments; we can only hope they will go to where they don't bother anyone!

I agree

They are still waffling about whether Florida is in the cone or not. Emily, apparently, is NOT behaving!! Grumbling
More will be revealed later today. Meanwhile, good thoughts to the people in Haiti who certainly do not need a Tropical Storm in their lives!

As of the 5:00 weather report, Emily is no more. She might re-form once she is out over water again, but right now everyone can breathe a sigh of relief....for now. Smiling
