I'm waving to the East as Irene sails by, what a relief! But very concerned for the many thousands who are still in her path.
Rain here in Naples, now, from one of the outliers. But nothing to worry about.
I think I need a drink!! ok I can probably wait until 5....
Yes, thank goodness she's decided to bypass Florida. And yes, she is impacting & will impact many people yet. Looks like she's intent on giving N.C. a taste of her wrath as well as Virginia & the forecast keeps coming back to a probable impact for New England. I worry about the tornadoes & flooding which spawns inland in those states.
Awww. Hetty, why wait? It's been along few days of tension.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

DH had to get up well before the crack of dawn, and I haven't been able to go back to sleep so it has been compulsory reading of the weather blogs. There are still people who think this storm is nothing to worry about.... I hope they will be around to eat their crow....

Hmmmmm... that movie was on week before last but I don't remember what channel.

It's hard to fathom just how huge this storm is until you see an image like this. The Westerly breeze and rain we are having here in Southwest Florida is actually still a result of Irene, and she is affecting the weather all the way up into the Great Lakes area. A monster.
Well, I don't know. I was just watching the news a bit and they were interviewing a woman in New York on how she was preparing. Well, she has flashlights, a good book, hard boiled eggs and cooked pasta. And lots of stuff in the fridge. And she lives in a high rise....
OK, here we go again - Katia has just been declared a Hurricane.
Here is the (for now) predicted path.
In addition there is a 'Tropical Disturbance' in the Gulf of Mexico which is likely to bring a bunch of rain to Texas - and we all know they need it badly!!
I'll keep you posted!!

The comment on this picture was 'it looks like the models got into the liquor cabinet' This is the storm in the Caribbean which is likely to develop more, but will at least bring rain to areas that need it badly.
Yup, that track looks like one of those wind up "tops" toys some Nat'l Hurricane Center forecasters kid was playing with.

This is the big rainmaker for Louisiana! It is hoped that it will make landfall soon. We don't need it to be meandering around the gulf, which is hot, and thereby increase its chances of becoming a more severe storm.
We have to save our excitement until/if we need it to prepare.
