If you look at the current migration maps, some migrating Monarchs have already reached certain parts of Mexico. For some reason, many that reach central Texas, veer off to the west and take a more western route out of Texas. I've seen that happen before, guess that's why none are here at my place.

Ann, happy to hear that you are figuring out your camera. I have a Sony and the card had to be formatted, I use the cable to import to the computer, and yes you have to turn the camera on, once the photos all appear, I turn it off.. Big Grin

From Journey North on Facebook:

Many people are worried about the effect of Hurricane Patricia on the monarch migration.

We don’t have any information at this time but we are in touch with people who will share what they know. We’ll be sure to include any news in next week’s monarch migration update.

The landfall for Hurricane Patricia is west of the monarch overwintering region; its path is predicted to stay to west and north of the region. By Sunday, the downgraded storm may reach the monarch migration pathway near Monterrey but presumably the winds will not be too strong by then.

I added the overwintering region and migration pathway on the Accuweather map below in orange. Let’s hope people and butterflies are going to be fine!

This may only work for Floridians because it involves choosing a favorite Florida sports team, but it's pretty funny. What would your butterfly name be? I'm a Mittened Sprite Metalmark!

I saw that unidentified Butterfly here again today only thing is every time it views me , poof off in the wind it goes , Sad
A lot it could be , that orange with dots , any of a dozen ,

If I was The King or Queen Monarch , I would be saying , well kiddies , it looks like this winters camping trip has been rain delayed , Whistling Glare

Yes , hope the people will stay well , and safe , I agree

I am not truly concerned about the weather as to the Monarch migration , Like Wilde beasts or Buffalo they will cross the river as they do , the airflow or airstream in this case ,
it is really nice to see so many though , those who have been watching a while remember a few years ago , those numbers had only been a few thousand in a 7 to 10 days time length seeing 100's or 1000's or nearly 10's of 1000's every few days is great really Smiling

Critter , you may remember the older film of the valley of the Monarch's .
10 to 12 ft hanging Monarch towers hanging from the tee , if it became unbalanced a mature tree was actually bending there were so many ,
I may of been referring to 2008 or 2009 , the watch for Monarch , seeing a dozen or two crossing into Mexico ,when at the same time they had always seen groupings of 100 or more ,
When the watchers and counters were seeing that it was concern , that year the fellow was saying he had seen three to five dozen , when he had usually seen several hundred thousand by the same time ,
Anyway , looking like a good year for BF's as far as that . I agree Hurray!

Jim, I didn't remember the numbers, but I DO remember the pictures.
And I remember hearing that the numbers were startlingly low recently.
It looked like a done deal, so I am happy with any increase!

J, I don't think I saw as many this year as last year, either, although I did see some.

While looking at one of my Butterfly Bushes still in significant bloom, my eyes were drawn to something flying about. LOTS of them Green Grin! From research, it looks like they were green lacewings. I do not recall seeing them before. They were fascinating to watch cause they moved from here to there often and fast. But TINY. Anyway, neat at this late date seeing something still taking advantage of the BB goodies. I did see a few White Cabbage moths. No butterflies for about a week. It is starting to get quite chilly here - nightly lows in low 40s and even upper 30s. [Note to self - get Tropicals IN - SOON!! nodding ]
