I've been thinking along those lines, Rick. Actually, I was imagining something like you have a primary list for trading, and then you select to copy it down into a new trade opportunity and then adjust it however you like, removing or adding items specifically for that trade.

That would be fantastic.

My own usage would be to keep as many details as I can muster in my primary list, and then (hopefully) edit it down to what's relevant for each swap.

Say, are you also going to provide mental upgrades to my gray matter so I can actually participate in two swaps at the same time without my head exploding? I finally got around to visualizing what that would be like in two busy swaps and, yes.

I'm still chuckling over 'sleep seed buying', I actually do go online to look at seeds at night if I can't sleep. So many seeds, need to trade! I am full of anticipation.

As a silent stalker of this thread, I have to agree with JVDubb about the sometimes negative responses to what seems like an excellent new function-in-the-making. I have only marginal success at starting plants from seed, but did have a few this year that I grew from seed to harvest, so am getting a bit more interested. I also harvested a small amount of seed this year and found that to be fun. I'm 'all ears' regarding how this new feature will be implemented. Kudos to DND and Dave for taking this on, and I look forward to watching it unfold.

I believe the responses are not negative so much as they are expressing impatience to see some results. Where is the swap? When will it begin? Who exactly is in charge? What are the rules? How many swaps? Did we have a chance to vote for the person we would like to trust to run the swap? What happened to @Horntoads offer to host the first swap? Why was his offer ignored? So many questions unanswered.

From the posts I have read it would appear that DogsNDayliles is calling the shots and allowing[i/] @dave to follow. Not my idea of how things have been done on ATP. But then again I have only been here for 3 or 4 years, so what do I know. Shrug!

In my very humble opinion perhaps it may have been better to do the planning "behind the scenes" before letting the public know about the proposed swap. If a more cohesive idea had been introduced to the public there would probably be no "negativity". We are at post #166 and I have yet to see a swap starting. Call me impatient, but do not call me negative, thank you.

The remark about "you know who you are" left me out in the cold. Enough said. Yes, I [i] am
taking this personally. I feel as if I am on the old DG site or even the other sites where cliques formed...this has not been a friendly conversation. The posts have not been for the good of all members. This has been divisive; not at all fun so far.

Sorry, but since I feel the remarks were well-aimed and hit their mark, I must stop watching this thread. I like a fun swap. I have participated in swaps and really have enjoyed the fun of getting to know the others in the chit-chat that goes with most swaps. On this thread, even though we have not swapped a single seed, I have gotten to know some of the posters... but not in a good way. Thumbs down

Someone should look at this entire thread and say, "What's wrong with this picture?"
There are enough problems in life. Planning a simple seed swap should not be a problem. I tip my hat to you.

This trading system is larger than one member and nobody is in charge of this but me.

I haven't read every post in this thread. I've been busy planning the technical side of this, and corresponding in tree mails with a few members who have treemailed me ideas.

Normally I like to plan features out in the open and my plan has been to launch a new thread in Site Talk later this week, outlining exactly how the system will work, and soliciting beta testers to participate.

But this cloud over the idea has me rethinking the timing on this. I won't do all this work under a cloud of negativity. It's supposed to be an awesome fun feature that is inclusive of all members. I don't want to have anything to do with anything else.

I am looking for a seed swap to join this year.

I am one of the people who have participated in the fabulous "Piggy Swap" hosted by Ella of Ella's Garden on cubits. The Piggy Swap hosts are taking a year off due to health concerns.

I would love to know about other swaps either on ATP and/or elsewhere.

My understanding of this whole undertaking is that Dave is setting up a system to facilitate seed swapping, which will enable anyone that wants organize a swap to do so with some tools in place on the site to make the job easier. Although this thread has been pretty much centered around DogsNDaylilies' idea for a swap, because she was the one who originally presented the idea and asked about interest in it, that doesn't mean that anyone has to participate in that particular swap, nor is that being set up as "the" ATP swap.

Whether or not I choose to participate in one or more swaps myself, I really believe that organized multi-person swaps would be a great addition to the ATP site, so I hope this doesn't all get derailed by a small group of members who are not happy with how things are being done.

Just my 2 cents worth.... Shrug!

There's something that @greene said that is the heart and soul of ATP. Dave and Trish in all ways have included all of us equally. Equal opportunities throughout the website. We have all had the opportunity to even build this amazing site, through articles, pictures, database info and images, and we've always been encouraged to make suggestions. We've never had to have ATP Police checking out every word to make sure it wasn't the wrong word. We never argue, we've always felt comfortable with what we said or what we did as well as the suggestions we shared. That's what ATP was built upon, we are all equal partners if we are gardeners. I am very thankful to have a site where I know most people and care very much about them and where we are all respectful of each other.

I thought that was worth emphasizing.

Maybe Greene is thinking of a swap where everything is done with paper and pencil, or hand-maintained text docs.

Dave is creating a software component, which takes time and design effort.

Anyone can announce a swap at any time, if it requires no new software to support.

How many people on this thread are negative about Dave creating new software to support multiple swaps within ATP?

How many are thrilled, eager, delighted, optimistic and hopeful?

I'm T.E.D.O.H., and stocking up on seeds that might find takers.

I believe I was the person DND was referring to when she wrote "and you know who you are".

Someone might want to let Greene know it didn't have anything to do with him. I was just tree mailing her suggestions and offering words of support. That was all. I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding. Sighing!

I am glad that Dave is creating another useful tool for ATP.

Whether everyone uses it or even participates in a seed swap is each member's choice. I am just glad that the option will be there! Thanks, Dave! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Since my name was tossed into the mix, allow me to smooth a little more. I like the idea of an ATP seed swap, so when there were request for volunteers, I did. That does not mean that I really wanted to host a swap, but was trying to help out. When DND decided she wanted to do it ( it was her idea) I stepped aside. Although I was willing to help, I am relieved that the pressure is off me and I support DND's efforts in trying to make this swap work. I am also excited to see what new goodies Dave has in store for us. As far as hosting a swap myself, I am considering hosting one or two more focused swaps next year in my areas of interest. Perhaps a Native Plant/Wildflower Swap or a Hibiscus Swap if there is enough interest. I encourage everyone to be patient and see what dave and DND come up with.

I'm usually more adept at figuring out acronyms, atleast in part, but "T.E.D.O.H." escapes me. Confused Hilarious!

What does that stand for?

"The Egg Did One Hop"...no, no, that can't be it...
"Tomorrow Everyone Does One-hundred Hops"....no, no...can't be that either....

Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes. Rolling my eyes.

I'm stumped!
