Just what I need, @weedwhacker, a competitor. Sighing! Hopefully, I will have some nice garlic this spring. I never know. I still see leaves poking through the leaf cover, so I know some of it seems to being doing fine.

So far, since I've planted my garlic in mid-October, we've had temps as low as -4F, up to 56F, inches of rain, and several inches of snow. All I can hope is that the straw mulch I have is protecting everything. I did have a few sprouts before all of this began. Garlic is in raised beds, and drain really well.

Like Huang, I love garlic scapes, and even asked my neighbor (who doesn't use hers) to give me hers last year. We made an awesome garlic scape pesto for the freezer, and use the scapes fresh as well.

Linda, if you like and will remind me in mid to late May, I will send you lots of scapes for postage. I generally just toss them in with the bulbs, knowing they will seldom be used. I don't use them myself.

@drdawg--thank you for the kind offer. I may take you up on that. I did enlarge my garlic bed this year, so hopefully that will help. I can buy them at the farmer's market but they are prohibitively expensive. Would make for some mighty pricey pesto Hilarious!

My garlic is expensive too, far more expensive than what's found at our local farmer's market. Gourmet, heirloom garlic is just so special and so hard to find. My garlic averages out at $22/lb. and I sell out (within two weeks) by mid-June. I sold approximately 60 lbs. each of the last three previous years. I could easily sell much more but I am just a hobbyist grower with a smallish raised garden. The sale of my garlic helps pay for my true addiction, orchids. Sighing!

Last summer there was some garlic for sale at a farm stand in Wisconsin (about an hour's drive from us) where we buy tomatoes before we have any that are ripe, and corn; puny, dirty, sad looking bulbs Blinking . I don't even remember what they were asking for them, but whatever it was, it was too much... I would have been embarrassed to put them on display.

Some of my varieties can average four bulbs per pound. Don't think "Elephant Garlic" though. This is not even a garlic.

Ken--I think your garlic is very fairly priced, based upon what I've purchased in the past.

However, our farmer's market sells about 8-10 scapes for $4.00 or more. Yikes!!!!

Still quite a while to go before I can see my garlic (but I'm happy just knowing it's there, under the snow) Smiling
