I didn't know either, when you posted the photo of the smoke tree, I just feel that those trees have interesting color and flowers, then I further checked on google and find out that smoke tree and cashew nuts are related.

poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans) is related to cashews too

urushi, the Japanese word for lacquer (high gloss wood coating) is made from the sap (urushiol) of the lacquer tree (Toxicodendron vernicifluum) - closely related to poison ivy -

That's why I grow them. Lovey dubby When in full bloom I make plumeria leis. This year has been too rainy and I have less bloom.

In Bali also, not only leis, they like to use them as table decorations, by letting the plumerias floating on the water inside a bowl or a glass.

I used to do that too Whistling Back in the day I had a lot of plumerias but got disheartened when freeze killed them that one year I was out of town and we had a freeze. So I bought less and just kept my seed grown ones. Now I don't get excited nor want to buy plumerias anymore. I have too many and they take up a lot of space and they don't bloom as often.

Rolling on the floor laughing maybe your neighbor didn't take care of it well and knows you will take care of it so it escaped to your side of the fence.

I have pony tail palms as old as our house. Bought them as babies and have them in beautiful decorative pots. If I put them in the ground they would have grown huge by now but instead they are stunted and only way to get them out is to break the pots.

Whew! I haven't ever been on this Adeniums forum, but was directed here by a fellow NGA member knowing I'd like to see the recent post of the beautiful gardens.

Tiffany, I admire your plant collection very much! Kinda have me drooling.

GiGi, I've always enjoyed your plumeria photos, but never realized you are in 9a zone. I'm in 9b and have tried plumeria a few times, I've lost them to the cold, everytime. My friend gave me one she had potted up last year and I again I forgot about it when we went down to 32F for 8 hours. I was sure it was totally dead, but went ahead and placed it, not really even putting the roots down in the ground, in an out of the way place. I just found it the other day and have a new plant coming up, a good foot tall. Hurray! I have put it in a pot, fingers crossed it makes it and I don't forget it when we freeze. Any tips you can give on getting it to bloom is appreciated.

Bea, well what can I say, except I want to move to Oregon now LOL. I know everyone thinks being in a tropical environment like Florida is so nice because, "we can grow everything"...well we can't grow a garden like yours. The many blooms are breathtaking, with backdrops of trees in all array of colors. Those hydrangea bushes are freaking amazing. Thumbs up I'm actually surprised at some of the plants you can grow there, that actually rebound each year. You have an amazing garden pallet and do a wonderful job in maintaining it, Truly! Oh and here in Central FL we also have raccoon's, fox, rabbits, coyotes, bob cats, but you can add black bears, panthers, opossum, armadillos, and down south those big pythons...gators don't come into the gardens much, but some have. Whistling

I've never thought about doing a drone photo of my garden, but then you wouldn't be able to see the jungle for the trees.

@sunkissed Welcome! to the Adenium forum Hurray! I revived an old thread started by Dr Ken @drdawg so we can encourage other NGA members to join the fun of showing other plants and their garden even if they are not growing any adeniums. Ken is by default now our Plumeria King, since he is growing a number of well known and hard to find plumerias as well has his own seedgrown plumerias!

For the Plumerias most of mine are in pots. So, I learned to cover them up if when the forecast is below 40s, which is usually just a few days in a year. The one that are too big, that I couldn't cover, I just take cuttings of them as back ups.

My plumerias are not blooming as much this year because i didn't fertilize early enough and I had focused my attention on my adeniums and succulents. The majority of my adeniums and succulents were just acquired beginning May of last year and rescued a lot last winter that need TLC. I am a newbie growing them and still trying to get to know how to take care of them and minimize losses due to rot.

I agree I follow Tiffany a lot because she does not only have a lot of varieties she is growing but she also shares a lot of helpful tips on how to propagate her collection. (I just picked up a tip to keep the mother plants in the pots and only the propagations in my garden.)

Yes I agree @bumplebea's garden paradise is a joy to see. She definitely has the touch. She is actually the main reason I revived this thread so I don't have to follow her around in different forums to get a good view of her beautiful garden!

This is a one-stop shop thread, so we can post anything we grow, any sections and learn from our failures too! Would love to see what you are growing since we are on similar zone. Group hug

I don't know about the "label", Gigi, but yes, I do grow quite a few plumeria. I've gotten into some of the variegated varieties now, as well as some varieties with various leaf colors (other than green), and what's supposed to have the most fragrant flowers of all the plumeria, the Stenopetala (Cuban species).

Thank You! Gigi and for the information. I put the thread on my watch list. I do have a handful of adeniums, some for years. Glad I found it.

Ken, I just recently saw someone post a pic of the variegated plumeria Maya, I've never seen any in the stores around here. I do like the leaves being variegated, at least makes them beautiful all year long, not just when blooming. You have to admit they're not too interesting when not in bloom.
