@crowrita1

Arlyn ~ If you haven't found Gold Fish by now, Mary at Bluebird Haven will probably have it available next January, as she just got it and needs to grow more.

When I first met this very friendly woman I blurted out that I'd just purchased a Cadd iris,
Purple People Eater. She quickly responded with " For hybridizing, use pollen from this one, instead of
making it the seedpod parent". ! Loved her!

just looked at this older post, jan because it came up starred as a new post. haven't gotten to the end to read the new post, yet, because i'm still scanning through those i haven't read.

anna cadd is coming to our club's february "birthday meeting", as the guest speaker. we get together at a restaurant, bring a $15 grab bag gift to exchange, celebrate everyones' birthdays, eat, celebrate, Hurray! and have a great speaker as icing.

She's a very informative speaker and she's charming, Daphne. I wish we could get to more of the SRIS meetings, but it's an hour and a half drive at night, and our rural roads are hazardous, because you never know when a deer will pop up!

yes, jan....we've almost come close to having an accident with a deer. would not have been pretty.

i am lucky, that our meetings are during the day, usually on sundays, and are about an-hour-and-a-half away as well. it's usually a potluck and meets around 1. guess it gives those that attend a service in the morning time to regroup, and then attend the iris meeting?

Thinking about hybridizing - not from a very scientific point of view - I bear the humble title of "pollen dauber".
But, using the old cliche "...But I do know what I like" I thought I'd check what I really do like, in the database.
The search engine has a category that lets you select by color, form, and also by hybridizer. After checking just "hybridizer", and entering a name (It's "Joseph" not "Joe" Ghio, Smiling ) then scrolling down, check the "just show ones in my plant list" and the number of plants you have of that hybridizer comes up! After awhile you can often recognize the qualities that individual hybridists have developed.
The database is such a great tool. (It told me that I have 125 Blyths - although I have to check to see if any of the "wants" were included! ).

Jan, every time I have done a search like that it always shows wants as well as haves.

Yes, you're right , Debra. A quick look through my list showed about 5 Blyth wants.
Keppel's were my second most - 88. I'll see how many wants there were too.

I guess my point with this exercise is to see what I find appealing in each hybridizer's work, reflected in my purchases.
...and it's raining today.

Just looked at my Keppels and found just one want listed - Perfume Shop, an intermediate.Does anyone have it? Probably very fragrant. However, I don't always write my wants in my online list - but note them in my written notebook.
