I just saw this on the home page. I was born and raised in Indiana so I hope I can chime in *Blush*

I think MidWestern folks are the salt of the earth.

I miss corn cobs so high you can get lost in them.

I miss the vivid colors of the oaks and maples in autumn.

I miss seeing cows.

Ginny,
I love that!! In Kalona once, Mom disn't have enough money and the lady at Niff''s Nature Nook said just send us check in the mail. And Mom did.

Gene,
Those are good traits. We always say Menard's people won't steal out of the back of your truck.

We are the salt of the earth!

ROTFL! I'll bet you can recite the boy scout pledge Gene.

Vicki,
Great minds think alike! I love the rest of your descriptions! I love seeing cows and hearing them moo. Except at weaning time, lol!

Well, now that has to be a story...

I was born in Omaha, N. E, lived there for 34 years, moved to California. Got married there and when we would be in conversation with others and I would say something he would always say "she is from Nebraska, what does she know?" Many people would ask where I was from, they said I have a Midwest accent, and I would tell them and they would say, oh, nothing but cows and farms and I would tell them I lived in a big city and I barely saw farms or barns unless we drove to the country. Well, I lived in California for 18 years, got divorced and moved back to Omaha. I have never ever been ashamed of where I am from, everywhere has its own beauty.

Jim - Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Summer did seem short this year but some days were so hot I just stayed indoors. Still lots of green leaves here - not enough for a decent leaf pile to play in.

In the Fall you have to follow wide tractors and farm equipment down the road going slow and normally in a no passing zone Whistling Whistling

My Dad was in the Air Force and we lived all over the world. I was born In Midwest City, OK. A predictor? When my Dad was assigned to WI, I decided to stay here. He is in a nursing home in IL, he was from NE, my Mom from CO. Nothing like the Midwest !! Gene

Linda,
We have an accent? ROTFL! Altho I did break myself from say worsh rag.
I am proud of Iowa. Being in a gardening club and learning about other states, I am glad I live here. You came back home too, instead of staying out there.

Jim,
In spite of it being an awful year, it did go fast and I always skip winter, thinking about spring, lol!

Ginny,
I'm proud of those farmers. If there is room, they will pull over as far as they can or wave you on when the coast is clear to pass.

I agree Gene,
We have it good.

You know you're from the Midwest when pink corn chaff is all over your driveway and in your birdbaths.

My parents always said "worsh" rag too - I think I still do - a little bit Whistling

My relatives are from southern Indiana and I remember grandma saying "directly" instead of pretty soon or in a little bit as in "I'm going to town directly"

My parents and relatives always pronounced Cincinnati as CincinnaTUH instead of CincinnaTEE and in talking about a Chevrolet, would say Chivy instead of Chevy.

I agree Sally. Iowa’s a pretty good place to live. Our farmers used to pull over or wave you on but not as many do here anymore.
You know you’re from small town Midwest when you accidentally leave your purse on the counter when you go to the dressing room and ask the clerk to watch it for you Hilarious!

For TV news people across the country, what their accent is makes a difference. Has to be something that can be understood and is acceptable to most of the audience. Most TV stations look for people with Midwest accents. Learned this from my Dad who was a weatherman when we were having a discussion about TV weathermen. And a bit of Google as well. Gene

Vicki,
I love language and how it's all a bit different. It's fun to hear other's expressions and you come up with some good ones!

Ginny,
Most of them around here are still courteous.
From the size of the two tractors that pass by my house I can see why they hog the road. They're HUGE!!
Yes on leaving your purse, or asking them if you can stack your purchases there while you finish shopping. For me it was usually a stack of books, lol!

That's interesting Gene!
I'm proud to be a Midwesterner.

You know you're from the Midwest when you see bales in the country ditches.

I cannot remember where I saw that first - bailing the grass/weeds in the ditch. Perhaps MO? They do not do that around here.

Looks like Gene has to go bail the grass from jail. Whistling Rolling on the floor laughing Sticking tongue out

Sorry, Gene but I couldn't resist that. Did the grass call you from the jail phone. Ok, stopping while I can. D'Oh! Hilarious!
