Could have posted this on the Midwest everything else thread but this thread needs a boost once in a while. Someone just asked me how many cats I have. I said 1.5. Half a cat they asked. Yes, "Right" who always has his head turned to the right is totally deaf and lost 90% of his tail. (Don't ask, not a nice story.) Reminds me of one of the first times I visited way up north in WI. On the bulleting board in the local café was a Lost Dog poster. Forgive me if I don't remember it all or do it justice. Mixed breed B&W 3 legged dog. Blind in one eye. No tail. Answers to the name "Lucky." Saw a similar poster in the grocery store one county over. I have only ever seen such in Northern WI and the UP. Does this poster show up n your area? Is this a Midwest thing? Hey, UP is almost Canada. perhaps this is something from the Red Green show. Gene

Gene,
Laughing! I was disoriented for a minute, thinking I clicked on Midwest Weather! You're right. It does need a boost. I forgot about it.
Oh that poor cat! He's lucky to have a home with you.
I can't say I've ever seen that poster. Must be an Upper Midwest thing, lol!

You know you're from the Midwest when the corn you threw out for the birds, was corn you scooped up after they were done augering it into the bins.

You eat Puppy Chow, you have Pork Queens, Straw Polls, corn should be knee high by the 4th of July, you eat breaded pork tenderloins the size of a dinner plate, you drink pop not soda, and you play Cornhole!

I have never had a breaded pork tenderloin, in or out of a sandwich - although I've heard of it. Puppy Chow?
We further identify ourselves here as Region Rats - as in "da region" (said with a Ditka-esk inflection).

Puppy chow is chex cereal coated in peanut butter and powdered sugar. Ooooh soo good but so not good for you. Hilarious! I quit eating it last year to limit my sugar a bit more. I try not to think about it. Hilarious!

Then you need to come to Iowa for a breaded pork tenderloin. They're wonderful nodding nodding nodding

pepper - thanks for the explanation. I wasn't sure if it was real Puppy Chow or what.
Ginny - I've seen the pork tenderloin sandwiches very rarely here and always wondered about them. Our local cuisine seems to be very pizza-oriented.

There are very few restaurants around here that don't serve the pork tenderloins. I don't eat it myself but I know a lot of people who go to different places just to see who has the best ones. They are huge and unless you can eat a whole platter of food in one sitting you will have some left over to take home.

Wow. So folks actually go on a quest for the best? It does seem like that would be a lot of food. I live in an area of pizza and wings and burgers (very chain-oriented) and more often go hunting for different ethnic food (rare).

Yeah, they do. Hilarious! BBQ and tenderloins are probably the 2 most popular around here. Besides pizza and burgers.

pepper - yep - you come from the land off "Q". Smiling Somehow, someone came up with a marketing plan for baby back ribs out of Chicago (after all, we're only 30 miles away). Frankly, BBR is not a good rib. We prefer St. Louis rib cuts.

OK, a trivia question I came up with (is it OK for me to say that, never heard it anywhere else?) related to the Midwest. Minn. license plates say land of 10K lakes. WI has 15K lakes. Top 2 states in the lower 48. Guess how many lakes there are in Alaska. Do guess before you Google it. Gives me some idea of how big Alaska is. How many people do you know in the Midwest want to have a cabin by a lake? Gene

A number (some estimates are 3.2 - 3.5 million) that I cannot really get a grip on. Gene
