My Adenium is still doing its slow bloom phase, just happy it is continuing on.

But plant is really in dormancy mode, caudex is not that fat, compared to its outdoor living during summer. Currently a little shrunken, but still rock hard.

Caudex last July 2016. Chubby and rock hard.

Beautiful Tarev, Happy New Year. All of mine in the greenhouse except for one have lost their leaves and gone dormant. The one still has leaves but I'll have to assume it's dormant also. I haven't watered any of them in over a month.

Hi Carol! Oh, cannot leave this one outdoors here during the winter season..way too cold for it. It is interesting to see that temps of 65F to 68F is enough for it to bloom, even as it is partially dormant now, as long as it gets that good amount of light. That south facing window has been really good for it.

Beautiful flowers, Tarev. My two are not in bloom but are still loaded with leaves. They are both in the solarium, getting full sun and never cooler than 68 F.

Tarev I know we have had nice sun this week, Have yours gone dormant? A few of mine have a little but with being in an eastern (echo summit direction) I was watering mine a little more then I thought I would need to. With all that snow and rain they only had bright light for awhile there. The only way I can tell when to water is by using my moisture meter. I still had a couple of blooms till Dec and some have even grown more leaves. I love CA weather

I have not gone through a full winter before with my plants. So are still sending out leaves and very green. a couple have lost their leaves or the leaves are turning brown and crunchy. This is a normal dormant phase. I will post a pic later. They are in a east face window. with sun at least this week. How do I know if I am giving to much water? My meter say's low moisture. Which I think is ok. It is odd to have them turn brown but stay firm.

Hello Marica, my Adeniums are in semi-dormant phase right now. Though one is blooming while holding on to its leaves..the other one is not in bloom but still holding on to existing leaves. No new leaves being made, and some existing leaves are slightly turning brown, so I know both are in dormancy. The photos of the one in bloom posted earlier in this thread. I have mine by our south facing window, and really glad the sun is out, so it gets its much needed light and warmth.

That is typical of Adenium leaves when the are in dormant mode, leaves turning brown, but the caudex should stay firm, may shrink a bit but it should stay firm.

If your plant is still making new leaves, you can still lightly water, but not too much as what we do during the hot and dry months. I prefer to keep mine on the drier side. It is the height of winter, and light/heat intensity is still not at that preferred level it likes.

Tarev, my adults are definitely dormant though one still has leaves but not putting out any more. I haven't watered any of them since probably Nov. Do they need any water when dormant? My babies however seem to be outgrowing the 3" pots I have them in. I don't know whether to repot into the 1gal pots I have or wait a few more months. These photos were taken right before I watered them so the soil looks dry.

Those babies sure don't look dormant. As long as they look that good, it's best to continue with the watering. I'd just make it a bit less than you'd give them in the summer when they are rapidly growing. I've read that Adenium seedlings shouldn't go dormant.

Chris your Adeniums are much younger than mine, and you have them under greenhouse conditions, so your growing environment is different than mine. It really varies how it is when you grow them.

My Adeniums have a brown bark cover already, so I think it ably manages being drier. Yours are still too young and stem still so green, so I would water them cautiously, but as Karen said, do it a bit less.

Thanks Karen and Tarev. These only get watered about every 10 days or so. So, I should wait until spring to put them into the 1gal nursery pots I bought for them? The other question was about the dormant five adults I have in my other greenhouse. All but one has lost their leaves and they've been tucked out of the way under some shelves I made for my succulents. These haven't been watered since about Nov. Do they need any water or just live off of what's in the caudex and the humidity they get from the air?

Hi Chris, I would just leave the adult ones alone as you are doing already now. It is amazing how they stay so dormant and not getting water, and still survive the season patiently. Like a pretty live plant sculpture. Smiling

I think it is okay too with what you are doing now with your younger ones. Just do a random check of the leaves and caudex from time to time.
