It's finally coming together! Got the two center beds in today. Tomorrow we'll close it up with the long side bed. It's just the bricks and dirt for now. I'll go back through to amend and plant on the next decent week day.

I'm finished!!! Hurray! ... for this year at least. Next spring I'll finish up the other side of the yard and lay gravel in the paths. Feels good not having any more plants waiting in pots. Big Grin

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Looks great Mike!

And you 'finished' before the really cold weather hits. Just remember that curved path when you're out shoveling the snow.

“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

Well GT I think I'm going to go for it and get two of the Staphylea trifolia. Then I have to figure out which other two plants to get to meet the four plant minimum. I was thinking of getting a physocarpus opulifolia but MOBOT suggests they are susceptible to fireblight. I always thought Ninebarks were fairly bulletproof. Anyone have experience with them? I already have a ton of pyracantha and a single photinia villosa, both of which have some susceptibility to fireblight so I don't want anything else that could bring in that disease.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
At my HD--we had some "Nine-Bark shrubs last summer. First time I heard of them or see them.

They were always getting so wilted--as no one was venturing into the 15 -20 racks of jammed full shrubs
and perennials in the area we call "The Corral". This is outside the garden gate area--across the road
from e garden gates and out a ways on the parking lot. The "Corral"...

To water there--is brutally impractical. Have to drag the 100' hose from the building across the lane
and unto the Corral to water. That is the 1st time I saw what a Nine-Bark looked like.
It was totally wilted...the leaves crunchy. I soaked them well---and once more a couple days later--
and they recovered nicely. Yeah! Lost a lot of leaves....The leaves are a nice bronze/dark reddish.
Don't know anything else about this shrub. G.

I had a Ninebark, nice flowering shrub but spreads in a wide vase shape and I didn't have a good place for it. Liked it though.
Plant it and they will come.

I moved my Oakleaf hydrangea over the weekend. It felt good to be in the garden, and I knew this soaking rain was coming.
Gita's wintersweet bush is blooming, and the clippings I brought into the kitchen give us whiffs of scent. Darn shame the rain is soaking the ones outdoors and keeping me from smelling all those.
Purple deadnettle and bittercress are growing like crazy.
Plant it and they will come.

It'll seem really strange if we don't get measurable snow this winter! The forecast calls for mixed rain and snow in the first week of February, but it doesn't sound like it'll add up to much.

Bittercress – Cardamine hirsuta. produces slender stalks with tiny white flowers in late winter and early spring. Seed pods explode when disturbed and throw seeds 6 - 8 feet.
