Plant it and they will come.

At least the deadnettle is much easier to control, and more attractive with purple flowers.

I think those Cardamine hirsuta started growing in seed trays. They're gone now!

David, that's true. Though, deadnettle has this bad trait of breaking off and leaving the roots, and I'm thinking they'll sprout again. Cardamine is everywhere in my yard! And those popping seeds-

If you could pick one "weed' to magically eliminate from your yard, which would it be?
Plant it and they will come.

That would be a hard choice to make, Sally. It would be a toss-up between bittercress and stilt grass, but I'm thinking I would reserve the magic for the stilt grass though. We have managed to get the bittercress pretty much under control. This time of year we begin to regularly tour the yard in search of bittercress plants large and small, pulling all we see and trying to make sure that none get the chance to set seed. After years of effort we find very few plants, usually in localized populations where a plant evaded elimination and seeded around.

I picked stilt grass because I already have a magic bittercress remover - David Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing He weeds the bittercress from my gardens for me as we stroll around. I always have an infestation, so seriously I need to get out there routinely and pull it like he and Pat do. Should finally have the time in another couple of weeks Green Grin!

David, Cardamine Terminator
I don't have stilt grass.
My pick is Duchesnea indica, false strawberry. Creeps everywhere, hard to pull.

At least bittercress is edible, for after Apocalypse, which it will surely survive!

Not too bad out there. I got a little cleanup done, and threw down some seeds out of my box- poppy, california poppy, columbine, foxglove

So glad I leave a lot of plant stems as it helps me figure out what's there, since I have a hard time remembering these days D'Oh!

I got a little pack of bamboo plant labels from Home Depot, good for pots, should be more durable than popsicle sticks. I could make a bunch more from bamboo Ric has brought us. The big stakes are a couple years old so the bottoms rotted.
Plant it and they will come.

I think my pick would also be Duchesnea indica, although there are some close contenders I haven't identified.

Hmmmm---I don't know what any weed is called--except dandelions and wild onions/garlic???
I had to Google your weeds to see what they look like. I know I have bittercress--but it does pull
up easily. Yes! I do hate the wild strawberry--as it tends to grow around the edges of my beds.
Man! Their roots sure go deep and wide!

I have not done much of anything out in my yard. Too windy...too cold.... Lots of branches coming down from my old maple. Nature is pruning deadwood. G.

I wish the Bipolaris fungus that kills Stiltgrass would spread more rapidly. ...."Diseased Japanese stiltgrass (JSG, M. vimineum) was discovered in August 2012 at a residence on Indian Springs Road, Frederick, MD" https://www.ars.usda.gov/resea...

Lisa, yes.. and we have that 'lawn'in several places.I have to give it credit for covering crap ground when other things don't.

LOL David. I do walk in parks where there is stilt grass, so certainly, it can come here like it went there.
Plant it and they will come.

To David's dismay, the bittercress doesn't really bother me. It seems to die back when the weather heats up and doesn't get in the way of other plants in my garden.

I'd eliminate poison ivy and thistles... actually, both are almost gone from my treeline and gardens, but not quite. And the urishol oil from the poison ivy may well persist 10 years in the soil after the last plant is gone... ugh.

I have seen bittercress form a solid carpet or sod in a garden, obliterating all plants but the rose bushes. I our yard it will displace the lawn (moss) if left unchecked. Also, seeds into pots and will out compete seedlings in flats of winter sown species.

We don't have a problem with thistles or poison ivy, and what little poison ivy we do find I can pull by hand without repercussions. Lucky that way.

Some day Jill, stilt grass will invade your yard. On a weeds course field trip we were shown a section of Patapsco State Park where it had completely eliminated understory growth, suppressing even tree seedlings.

Stilt grass is nasty stuff. It is supposed to be an annual, but it has a perennial-like ability to persist in lawns in my neighborhood. I gave up on eradicating it from the woods near my house, but I'm determined to keep it from my yard and am trying to keep my daughter's yard free of it as well because her property borders a wooded area with a creek.

Used to have a major problem with Johnson grass... still pops up here and there, but it's at least a little controlled. Googled stilt grass, and I don't think I"ve seen it here yet, but I'll be watchful.

There used to be a stand of some other sort of grass, very fine blades, in the back corner... it got hit by the collateral damage effect during the War of Poison Ivy. I don't miss it!
