I did read somewhere that seedlings with a jade green stem will have white flowers while the ones with a red stem do not. Is this true? If so wich I hope not, mine seedlings would all have white flowers. They all do have green stems. Even the ones from Ko. Wich are supossed to be red/white and black/purple. Who does have experience with it.

I know this is true for Plumeria (it is certainly an indication of color, not a guarantee though). I don't know about Adeniums.

Well I hope not. If so all my about 60 seedlings would be white. I can not imagine that. Some are supposed to be black or red. After all Ko is a reliable seller.

Willeke,
The stem color on seedlings, some say is an indicator of possible flower color. It is only that. An indicator of a possibilities.
I have not really paid attention to the stem color. Have noticed while growing, but to date of all the Adeniums started and blooming age. Not one is solid White or Pink. Some with combinations of both and other.
I would not give it too much thought.

Thanks Rick. I already could not imagine it. Can it perhaps also have to do with the amount of light they do get. I was thinking that seedlings who get more light would get more red perhaps. Would it be a good idea to get a grow light perhaps? Thank You!

I have noticed stem color change in many seedlings, some have a reddish pigmentation and others green. I do not believe too much has to do with amount of light? I only purchased a T5 HO fluorescent fixture to keep my seedlings going over their first winter. After this they are on there own. It definitely does assist for good growth and a jump on the coming summer.

For myself. I do not want to grow my plants under lights all year and really not at all. It was not my intent on growing these under lights, but it does extend their growing season for first year.

Rick, how close to the T-5HO fixture can you put those adeniums?

Well I think I do not get a growing light than. After all they are not cheap, and if it does not make to big a difference it is a waste of money. Next year I can not even use it anymore. They are in a south facing window. So when the sun is there they get sunlight. In the evening they get light from the lamp. They grow well. They do make new leaves. I guess you got a lot of green stems as well with all the seedlings you did grow?

It's 3:30 AM the 26th here. I will look closer at the stems when the sun comes up. There might be something there about the plants with white flowers having a lighter green stem...the one white that I have does have a lighter green than the pinks and reds.

There is a slight difference. Some are lighter green than others, but no red ones at all.

Ken,
I have the T5 HO Florescents approximately 4" from the leaves. Never had any issues with burning. They do not create alot of heat.

I use things to raise them up so that I can have taller plants under at the same time.

My fixtures are so hot, and the tubes so hot, you can't touch either. I don't know why there is such a difference. My fixtures are so bright, that even high-light loving orchids have to be kept a minimum of 18" away, otherwise they sunburn. Confused

Okay, it's been daylight here for over an hour. I looked at the white-flowered adenium tree I have, and yes the stems are lighter. However, I looked at my grafted white flower trees and they are not as light. So...go figure?

Goodmorning Kadie. I guess it is just a case of wait and see. I do see differences in the stem. Some are darker green than others, but I can not imagine that the ones that are supossed to be almost black Will be white. Perhaps a lighter shade of dark bloom. We Will see. I am very excited to see them bloom.

Hi Willeka, good morning, though it's 7 PM over here 12/26. I have a tree that has very dark stems...almost black, the flowers are pink.

Another Christmas gone by as well as a birthday. Sighing!

Good morning, Willeke. The power outage lasted about an hour. Our power plant is not in 100% capacity due to needed repairs, so the power is cut off at different neighborhoods daily.
