You are right, 26" plus in certain areas... I have not been outside since last week, not even curious. My sister in Maywood, NJ had a smaller amount of snow like 8". Not too bad.

Welcome Welcome! to the new folks! It is too cold to take photos today, but here is a picture of the greenhouse just after feeding. All of my new "chids" are inspected, hooked, and hung (except one that is in isolation).

I will definitely need to have a bigger GH for next winter. When these grow over the summer, there will not be room. Sticking tongue out Whistling

Probably you can never have a big enough greenhouse, Melissa. However much room you make, you will buy orchids to fill it up anyway. Looks wonderful in there!

I'm jealous! I wish I could have moved my greenhouse with me...I'm sure the folks that bought my

Must admit, I think wistfully about a greenhouse at this time of year, when I'm schlepping orchids in and out of the house a lot. But for the other 10 months (at least) of the year, I think here it would be a big maintenance burden, for not very much gain, since our weather is pretty great for orchids most of the year.

Jim's setup is fantastic, with all those huge windows he can open, but he still runs a few big fans in the OC as I recall to keep air flow going and the temps down in summer.

The growers I've visited here have shade houses with plastic that can cover them, and rolls down the sides for cold weather, but very few of them have a real, glass greenhouse. In fact, the one at Selby is the only one I can recall anywhere locally. I haven't visited too many of the growers in summer, though. The one fellow along the street that went out of business a few years ago had Aluminet sides to his grow house that rolled up to let the breeze blow through.

Maybe one day I'll have DH build a pergola that I can enclose with roll-down sides in winter for the orchids . . but his project list is already pretty long.

It has been raining for three days and nights here but today was the topper. It woke me up a couple of times last night and it has been pretty much nonstop all day. I remember our dry season was rather wet last year and here we go again. Thank goodness for the OC or the orchids would be floating down the street.

Yep, I had mine all outside for a little bit of sunlight on Tuesday - little bit!! But now they are all under cover again after getting a really good rain soaking on Tuesday night. It's pouring again now, and the weather radar map looks all green, yellow and orange upwind of us, so it's going to keep on for a while.

I'm very thankful that I got to do a fungicide treatment on most of my plants before this. Now if the rainy "winter" weather continues maybe I won't see too much more black rot . .. report to follow. I do eventually want to get everyone back in their places for the growing season but man! this is a lot of rain for January.

We had record warmth for the month of December, and now record rainfall for January Sighing! Sure can't wait for El Nino to grow up and move on.

Still pretty nice here!
The Liese Pigors x Drumbeat looks pretty with its quartet of blooms, I think. This one has a beautiful floral scent with a strong top note of Cloves.

But nothing beats the scent of this combo, the Den. kingianum and Dendrochilum glumaceum, really lovely.

My wife let me do a bit of photography yesterday, and these three were in the S room. I have several in bloom in the greenhouses, but can't get up on my 3-step ladder to retrieve them. That's perhaps a week away, after I have my 14-day, post-op consult on Wednesday. B. nodosa has retained a lot of the freckles and the sepals/petals has remained pastel, lime colored. Pamila has now been in bloom since before Christmas and ended up being 5.5" petal-to-petal and 6.5" dorsal sepal to lip fringe. She really has gotten fragrant. 'Nora' has now bloomed twice in 12 months, having bloomed in mid-summer.

Great looking plants!

But I have a confusion. All B. Nodosa look exactly alike to me. (I have 'Little Stars"). What is the difference?
