one of the people that comes to the University on Thursday's to help us take care of the orchid collection uses something called 'Lock Tight'...which I thought you used on hardware to keep the nut from working loose..he swears by it as a mounting adhesive.
Meanwhile, back at the bench, some plants are making moves toward flowering...

how do you grow yours , Ken?...I have one that I got a month or so back..it came with 3 blooms...but they've moved on. It's a plant that I'm not familiar with. I haven't transplanted it as I heard they were fussy about that, and it was in bloom then.

Lindsey, the Max. tenuifolia is an interesting one. It grows its pseudobulbs in a sort of "daisy chain" arrangement. When the chain of pseudobulbs starts flopping out over the edges of the basket, and the older ones have some roots, I cut them off and stick them back into the basket. They never miss a beat.

I grow mine in a basket but it's in sphagnum which I aerate with a bamboo skewer fairly regularly. It likes to be kept moist, bright light and any amount of fert you're giving everybody else. I add more sphag as it breaks down and falls out the bottom of the basket.

Oddly enough, just before I moved all my orchids outside, I re-potted a ton of plants, including this tenuifolia. This re-potting took place about a month ago. It was growing in a 3 1/2" pot and I moved it to a 5" mesh-pot. I make my own orchid media and that consists of Douglas fir bark, cypress chunks, horticultural charcoal, expanded rock, coconut fiber chunks, and chopped sphagnum moss. This is my "regular" mix. IF a plant likes more constant moisture, I increase the chopped sphagnum.

thanks Ken and Elaine...I will go get some sphagnum ...it's not something I keep on hand for my Catts. and mix it in with my usual mix.
Jim...I can't wait for this spectacle! This division doesn't seem to be suffering any set back from being cut from the mother plant while in spike...

I mistakenly dissed my digbyana, saying it was sitting there doing nothing, when lo and behold it has a fat new growth coming along! First pic is the reason I didn't notice it, I think.

I'll have to check mine tomorrow ...I bought it in Apopka in the fall...and it's been in suspended animation ever since...who knows?...maybe it's blooming !!!
The Rcha. Honky Tonk Woman I got from Odoms at the Redland show has buds now emerging from the sheath..
Rlc. Arabesque x Rlc. Hawaiian Lightning has 3 buds ready to pop..and my B. Nodosa has a spike with a few buds on it..
a couple of other plants have embryonic buds visible through the sheath..so a few treasures are on the way.

If your Green Hornet isn't blooming yet, summer weather will surely force the issue, Lindsey. They are faithful, constant bloomers once they start and the blooms last and last, too. Mine takes any amount of sun and rain without complaint. It just didn't like being re-potted.
