Daisy, is that compact Den. getting full sun? Did it go through a cool-down during the winter or did you keep it warm, above 60F, those months?

These are Sarcoglottis sceptrodes, what I call the "Green Dragon Orchid". Someone posted the other day that their plants are deciduous and lose most of their leaves during winter. For some reason mine don't do so. These plants have all been in the solarium since November but I have an equal number of plants out in a greenhouse and they look the same. Most of my plants have inflo. Perhaps they'll lose their leaves before blooming but so far I see no evidence that they'll do so. I don't know why. Shrug!

Ken, Yes it gets a lot of sun. I have 5-wall polycarbonate walls and shade cloth, but it is still blindingly bright in there. Temps fall to near 50 in the winter. Its growing in straight bark and gets watered every couple days.

I have no clue how to take care of it but I guess what I'm doing is right.

Ursula, I will send you the postage. Whistling But I do hope you can get it to bloom.

Ken, your Green Dragons look really nice way and healthy! Thumbs up

Daisy, I think those 50 degr temps are not that easy to come by here in the greenhouse over the Winter, although I had it hanging for several Winters right on the North facing glass door. It gets as much sunshine as possible here in NJ. This Winter it is right next to Den aggregatum and gets treated the same.

Anticipation to action. The flower is almost bigger than the plant.

Den aggregatum gets more shade but has 3 spikes on it.

Is that what that hairy lip thing is called? I was pretty happy with it when I saw those frills around the edge.

Ken, your Green Dragons look great! Two of mine lost the leaves over the winter, but one has kept them, and I believe I'm seeing the smallest of a possible spike coming on.

Love your Den., Daisy! Such a pretty bloom!

My NOID Onc. is looking like I'll be seeing some blooms any day now. I'm so excited to see what it's going to look like! The first time blooming for me! Hurray!

Two of my Phals have big fat buds now, I'm so thrilled since I broke part of a spike off each of them earlier in the year.

Well, I posted this before, but it finally opened, so I had to show it! The opened blooms only lasted about a week! It was a first time bloom, I got the plant from Fred Clark a couple of years ago at our SOS meeting.

Your plant did what everyone says is the norm, losing leaves. I should have some of my plants in or near bloom when I get home tomorrow.
