I feel your pain about the heat today Rita. It was 96 here today but the heat index was at 103...I work outside all day, every day. Days like today are tough.

Well, I was outside working in the garden most of the afternoon till about 4:30 when I decided I had had enough and jumped in the shower. My clothes were wet simply from the sweat.

Looking on Weather Underground they say Heat index of 105 and high of 96 today. No wonder I thought it was warm out there!!

I had beans to pick and I always have tomatoes to pick. Can't skip a day as there are simply too many tomato plants.

Yes, the eggplants seem to love the heat. The plants are big and thriving and setting lots of fruits. I have picked a lot of eggplant so far this year and plenty move coming.

Two of my tomato cages blow over from the wind and rain the other day. I propped them back up today and the plants are fine. No damage.

If course I had to pick today even though it really is very hot and humid. I end up soaked even after a very few minutes out there.

So happy we had the rain last night....maybe my peas will germinate! I noticed all my tomato stakes were good this morning, but lost a big branch on a wild cherry tree.....have to hope I can move it onto the brush pile! Fall is a good time to plant broccoli....no green worms!

My harvest of Yard Long Beans. This year growing the Red Seeded Asparagus type Yard Long Beans.

So Yard Longs are really easy to grow and they taste tender and slightly sweet. Love 'em. nodding

I think anyone that likes green beans should like yard longs. As to the tomatoes they have been just fantastic this year. Growing lots of heirlooms but one of very favorites is still a small yellow I discovered last year called Juane Flamme. On beefsteak type slicers I love one called Royal Hillbilly. Just divine!

These peas are in ground.

Thumb of 2016-08-15/Newyorkrita/576fe2

these ones in the pots have really been having a time in this horrid heat. I water all the peas each day but the ones in pots I water twice a day.

It's not been a good veggie season here in southern NH Sad Very hot and dry. We finally got some rain Saturday night; but it will take quite a bit more to make a dent in this drought. I've been harvesting Fortex green pole beans, summer squash, zucchini, peppers and some tomatoes; not anywhere near the production I had last summer (2015).
Fingers crossed we'll soon get some rain.

Lack of water sure does impact the plants and production. Hope you get much needed rain for your garden.

I have been thinking of possibly trying Fortex next season. What do you think of them? Do you like them?

My crops are much smaller as well....and some tomatoes are just tiny! I don't understand why the watermelons look so good....I thought they needed loads of water, & they sure haven't been getting any in my garden!
