Gotta be honest...I can't comment on the 'mater based on its own merits...but it was DAMN good nestled next to some lettuce, bacon, mayo, and bread!

The tomatoes here have slowed down. It was a glut of tomato picking everyday in August. And I really had to pick everyday. we seem to be in a lull right now with not much to pick as far as tomatoes go.

I did pick a nice batch of green beans again today as well as summer squashes.

Lots more tomatoes, peppers, and beans coming in now along with so many Sweet 100's - the neighbors love them all. The basil I planted in April, that I was sure would perish, is lush! Tomatoes in the rose garden have lots of green ones but none ripening. Odd.

Oh, no! I have one plant near the kitchen and another in the (mostly) dahlia garden. When I cut them back they fill the air with their scent. I love it.

The basil did simply great, just great until one day it got some sort of fungus and simply up and died. Made me sad.

Well, really I went and looked at seeds there because of that free shipping offer. And then when I saw that these seeds that I wanted were on sale, that really did it for me. I bought them.

I guess it is too late to plant another crop of pole beans. But I just planted some Northeaster Romano poles beans just now. The Obelisk was empty as I had cut down the useless shrimp beans that had been there. Guess not much to loose but the cost of 13 seeds!!

I was generally disappointed in the amounts of pole beans harvested here this year. I guess that was one reason I kept planting bush beans. I mean some of the pole beans did do really well but others were a useless waste of space. At least I know what not to plant next season.

If we get frost the beans will be goners as I am not going to fuss with them. As I was planting them I was saying it is too late but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Sorry about your peas!!

The peas I planted on pots are a compleate loss as the backyard birds keep pecking at them and pick off all the leaves and growing tops. Strange as they never bothered the spring crop.

The peas I planted on the tomato cages needed more to grab onto which wasn't there. So they flopped and the slugs ate those up. But the peas inground on trellis netting are all doing fabulously. Tall and full of flowers with pods already setting.

I will have to take pictures of my fancy peas tomorrow. They are setting deep purple pods.
