@Patty, where did you get your 'Spumanti' from?

Lynn,

When I got the plant from them it was marked 'Rosa Spumonti', so that's why I asked. I'll see them tomorrow night so I'll ask what they chose as the correct name.

BTW I did hear from Janis Noyes that Gary did change the name from 'First Try' to 'Pacific First Try' even though it was introduced without the "Pacific" part.

Great information Kevin.
I'll wait to hear from you on the correct name for the 'Spumanti'. I find search reference to them possible having both, 'Rosa Spumanti' and 'Spumanti'.

I added you information on 'Pacific First Try' to the entry in the database. Hens and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Pacific First Try')
It sure is a beauty. Does anyone in the states have this one?

Awww... I like the frog people, but thanks for the warning. They do seem to have a splendid nursery, I've seen online tours of it. I'd love to tour it myself and take home a few Agaves, but they only sell to retailers.

@valleylynn - I got Spumanti from Garlands in 2013. Since then I've seen Rosa S on the web and thought (assumed) it was different. Nice to have the breeders close by Thumbs up

This 'Pacific Drama' is really redenning up. Quite a noticeable difference from a week ago. It also appears quite robust and healthy. Despite being planted in barkdust, almost no sunlight, and fighting the local weed population. This gal was planted where she would receive no attention and was told to "sink or swim". Apparently, she's swimming. Isn't that the way, the most neglected plant ends up thriving. The one factor in its favor is being located under the roof eves where protected from rainfall. Maybe there's a lesson there.

Thank you for the information Patty, I got mine from you. Kevin is going to find out tomorrow what the story is on this semp.

Tim that semp is looking 100% great, and is really showing promise of color to come.

Most of mine are looking good, with a few looking pretty sketchy from all the rain. Just took this photo:

To this, in 6 hours. Remember that big long wooden bed that was falling apart? You can see it to the left of this photo, 16 feet of the original 24 ft. bed was still there. They had to tear out the old bed to put in the new ones.

Almost all of them were taken out last fall and moved to the new beds. There were about 5 others that I moved Saturday morning. Two weeks ago I moved the large clumps of perennials out and place them in the cleaned out border along the creek, some of which are starting to bloom, or are setting buds. It is way to early in the year for this.

Lynn... the picture on the left is after and the picture on the right is before... right?
So the big wooden bed was replaced with 3 cinder-block beds... right?
Or am I reading these pictures wrong?
That's pretty good in 6 hours all by yourself.

Correct Tim. That old wooden bed was there when you were here last fall. Part of it was already taken out and the first two beds in the photo were put in last spring.
Thank you Tim and Julia, it is really amazing what I can get done in 6 hours when I put my mind to it. Whistling
Or two young men's minds to it. Rolling on the floor laughing
Each bed is leveled, 1/4" hardware cloth in the bottom, with cardboard over the top of it, then half filled with the old compost from the old bed, topped off with the sandy loam.

Now for the grass to grow back in between the beds. I have a bunch of new plants ordered from Wild Ginger Farm, plants that can be inter-planted with the semps.
