just in from day one of the Tamiami Show..pictures to follow..but here's what I got today:
Blc. Younges Island 'Newberry
Blc. Mem. Crispin Rosaies 'Carmela' AM/AOS
Slc. Selsai's Supernova x E. cordigera var. alba
Ctt. Warpaint
Blc. ( Ports of Paradise x Fortune) 'Dragon King'
Lc. Marcia Foster 'Bob Sanker'
Pot. Haw Yuan Gold 'Yung Kang #2' FCC/RHS
Lc. Purple Cascade 'Fragrant Beauty'
Rhyncholaeliocattleya ( isn't there an abbreviation for this?) Village Chief North 'Green Genius'
C. maxima x C.dowiana

Several people we talked to said to comeback tomorrow afternoon and all the out of state vendors will be
marking the non blooming potted plants down so they won't have to pay to ship them back to Asia or Hawaii.
We started the morning at 8am with a tailgate event sponsored by the Florida Orchid Growers FB group. This
enabled us to get into the exhibit hall 30 minutes before they opened to the general public and start shopping
without a crowd. We left at 2 pm and one vendor had no plants left on his display...he was completely sold out!

Awesome shopping, Lindsey. Will you have any room in the car if you shop tomorrow, too?

I think the abbreviation for Rhyncholaeliocattleya is Rlc. but I might be mistaken.

Welcome! Julie. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your collection.

Lindsey, I see the mulch spreading didn't slow you down one bit. Nice selections. Now for some name updates:
Rhyncholaeliocattleya (Rlc.) Yonges Island 'Newberry' (Cattleya Fair Play x Rhyncholaeliocattleya Oconee). Note the spelling.
Rhyncholaeliocattleya (Rlc.) Memoria Crispin Rosales 'Carmela' AM/AOS (Cattleya Bonanza (Bracey) x Rhyncholaeliocattleya Norman's Bay). Note the spelling
This one now has its own name: Enanthleya [Eny.] SunCoast Sunflares (Ctt. Selsal's Supernova x E. cordigera)
Cattlianthe (Ctt.) Warpaint (Cattleya Tango (1955) x Guarianthe aurantiaca). No change here but I give you the parents
Lucky again as this one has its own name now: Rhyncholaeliocattleya [Rlc.] Ports of Fortune (Rlc. Ports of Paradise x Rlc. Fortune)
Cattleya (C.) Marcia Foster 'Bob Sanker' (Cattleya Mamie Eisenhower x Cattleya Frank Lind)
Rhyncholaeliocattleya (Rlc.) Haw Yuan Gold 'Yung Kang #2' FCC/RHS (Rhyncholaeliocattleya Lemon Tree x Rhyncholaeliocattleya Tassie Barbero)
Cattleya (C.) Purple Cascade 'Fragrant Beauty' (Cattleya Interglossa x Cattleya Tokyo Magic)
Rhyncholaeliocattleya [Rlc.] Village Chief North 'Green Genius' (Cattleya Village Chief Cuba x Rhyncholaeliocattleya Memoria Helen Brown)
Once again, this orchid now has its own name: Cattleya [C.] Vestalis (C. maxima x C. dowiana)

There you go. Of your 9 new orchids, only one was correctly named. I think that is about average, unfortunately.

Yeah, Blinking Confused me too. Where the heck did a name like Enanthleya come from?

Another thing that's bothered me for a while on the name changes, when they named Brassavolas it was to honor a Venetian botanist and doctor named Antonio Musa Brassavole. Now all the Brassavolas are called Rhyncho -what the heckia-s, aren't they? Do they not want to honor Dr. Brassavole any more? I googled him and he was a pretty neat guy, brilliant in fact. Back in the 16th century he was the first doctor to successfully perform a tracheotomy. That's a life-saving procedure still in use today. I don't think they should take away things that have been named to honor someone like that.

Happily Brassavola nodosa and cucullata and surely a couple more are still named after the good Doctor. Smiling

I have to agree with Elaine on the Rhycho-whatchamacallits, the boffins are not making things any clearer.

I am going to have to look for the Yonges Island catt (or ric.) Yonges Is. is sort of across the sound from us, there are other islands in between, but I like the local name aspect and it is a drop dead gorgeous flower. Lindsey, you really picked some pretty ones.

I just got an email from the folks at Carmela...I had sent a pre order request for a bunch of plants and never heard back..until just now...so there will be some things I can cross of my list this afternoon!
Jim, thanks for the new info...( where do you find the time????) I just got a new application for my iPhone ( Orchid Album) to keep track of my inventory while on the road . It was a snap to make the changes and I'll get the tags done when I get home!

Pretty blooms, Lindsey! Love love the color on the Minipurple x!

Here are a couple of pictures -the Trichopilia suavis which I had picked up in bud at the NJ Orchid Show and some of my Silva loot, against the shoveled snow.

Gorgeous , Ursula...my sister had her heart set on getting a Trichopilia suavis this weekend...they only had one and it was very small..just 3 leaves and I think they were asking $15 for it...she passed on getting it.. are they fussy to grow?
Chia Lin anything is bound to be fabulous!
I got from Carmela this morning
Blc. Chia Lin
Lc. Melody Fair 'Carol'
Blc. Toshie Aoki 'Pizaz'
Blc. Samba Splendor 'P.R.'

Lots of new lovelies in your greenhouse, Ursula and they sure look pretty with all that snow in the background. I'd hope the warmth inside the greenhouse probably melts the snow on top pretty fast?

Nice choices there too, Lindsey. Can't wait to see some pictures of your new babies.
