Lindsey, I don't think the Trpla suavis is fussy, I have the hybrid marginata x suavis going for
many years.
Pretty new stuff!

Elaine, the first panel row closest to the roof is already free with the second row partially open.
I would expect most of the snow gone by tomorrow evening. It slides off the roof and hits the rain gutter with a loud clonk. I need a new rain gutter every three years or so, since this is crucial in our rain water collection.

Blc. Toshie Aoki 'Pizaz' is on my wish list. If I suddenly feel wealthy, I will splurge on one from Kawamoto's. Otherwise, Its on my shopping list for the Sacramento Orchid Show in April.

Thanks Ursula, I'll pass the encouraging words on to my sister!
Daisy, I got this one from Carmela...it was only 12.50..but is a few years away from blooming

it's definitely cheaper to buy at a show , there were no shipping charges added . I shopped the Carmela website,
made a list and sent an email a couple of weeks before the show. They pulled my plants and had them all waiting
for me.

By the way, I woke up this morning to 36 degrees and wide spread frost. I took a walk around the garden and looked carefully at the tender stuff and could see no damage. Time will tell. It is warmer tonight.

Lindsey, I'll give you the short answer to the correct names of your newest purchases. You are batting zero on this group...O for 7. Hilarious!

Lindsey, @sugarcane sorry that I missed you!

I was at the tailgate, but there were so many of us. I did make it to the photo. I was down front next to Kevin.

I had an excellent time judging. Our team awarded an FCC! This is Dendrobium Hawaii Stripes 'Nora' FCC/AOS.

Of course it won Grand Champion as well.

This was my car trunk when I got home. I got some really great ones, but I think my best find was Hygrochilus parishii x Vanda Guo Chia Long. I don't usually go for a peloric, but this one is exceptional.

I haven't been sitting on my hands either. I had a Master Gardener friend who decided to trade orchid growing for traveling about the country in an RV with her recently retired husband. She is selling off her collection and I stopped by to adopt a few. Also, the Tampa Orchid Club met today and I came home with three that needed a home. Here is a list of my recent acquisitions:

Dendrobium Little Atro (Dendrobium normanbyense x Dendrobium atroviolaceum)
Dendrobium Lowana Nioka (Dendrobium canaliculatum x Dendrobium antennatum)
Miltonidium Robin Pittman (Miltonia spectabilis x Oncidium Les Landes)
Rhyncholaeliocattleya Love Chat (Rhyncholaeliocattleya Chatoyant x Cattleya Love Knot
Cattleya [C.] Mishima Wine (C. Pirate King x C. Okarche)
Rhyncattleanthe Dennis Kone (Cattlianthe Chocolate Drop x Rhyncattleanthe Painter's Brush)
Rhyncholaeliocattleya [Rlc.] Hawaiian Mood (Rlc. Goldenzelle x Rlc. Rockdell)
Oncidium Copper Queen (Oncidium Schroderi x Oncidium Jasper). I have not heard of this one before. Should be interesting
Cattlianthe Jewel Box (Guarianthe aurantiaca x Cattleya Anzac (1921))

All are good sized plants but only one in bloom, Den Little Atro:

Nothing too exciting here, just good plants for reasonable prices. I do want to see what an Onc. Copper Queen looks like. There is no photo on OrchidWiz.

Okay, so I had a fine time at Tamiami. Here are some of the treasures. 1) V. Tokyo Blue 'Island Moon' even at the end of blooming, the veining is exceptional with awesome color saturation. 2) (V. John de Biase FCC x V. tessellata 'Mary Motes' FCC) AQ. 3) Vandachostylis Veeraphol such a cutie. 4) V. Kenny Gold x merrillii. The scent is to die for. 5) Aranda Wan Chark Kuan. A nice form of Aranda with good color. 6) V. Lim Guan Cheo [(brunnea x tessellata) x luzonica]. The end of the blooms, but I got 2 and the other is in spike. 7) V. Tristar Blue x Bitz's Heartthrob. unregistered cross. Another good color saturation and good form. Veining a little muddy. 8) Rhynchostylis gigantea x Holcoglossum wangii. Just love it.

Rhynchostylis coelestis (blue lip)
Perreiraara Bangkok Sunset
Rhynchostylis retusa (Indian form)
Rhynchostylis retusa

V. Simirun x Arachnis hookeriana var luteola (should be bright red with mahogany spots)
Vanda lilacina
Vanda tessellata var alba
(Hygrochilus parishii x Vanda Guo Chia Long) peloric
Thumb of 2016-01-27/shadytrake/349933

Paraphalaenopsis denevii x Vanda Suksamran Gold (denevii is extremely rare so getting a cross is the next best thing)
Renanthera Kalsom (not the Kawamoto clone)
Renanthera philippinensis x sib
Rhynchostylis retusa var gigantea (Indian long spike)
Vanda coerulea var alba
Vanda tessellata (N. India)
Vandachostylis Five Friendships (red lip)
Tolumnia henekenii (the bee orchid)

Yes, I got 5 Catts and that Onc. Copper Queen from Gerri Almond's going out of business sale and I bought 2 Dendrobiums from Laura Newton at the meeting. The Miltonidium was a gift from her for joining AOS. I was thinking of joining AOS anyway when she said she would give a plant of up to $20 in value to anyone who joined. I'm not sure I can grow the Miltonidium but for free I'll give it a shot.

Excellent selections, Milissa. I'll know who to ask when I have Vanda troubles in the future.

Muggy, rainy day here. They are redoing the streets in this subdivision and they have been running that big milling machine right in front of the house. It sounds like one of those earthquakes we got while living in Peru.

Almost 70 here today but the dang sand gnats (aka flying teeth) are out already.

Jim, they will be tearing out and re-paving our street in March, I am not looking forward to that milling machine in front of my home. I think I will arrange for us to be on vacation then.
