Tul Kerem

"The first arilbred is open in the commercial planting. TUL KEREM (H.Danielson 1974), a Historic OGB+ (3/4 aril). Stood up to our pounding rain of the last few days without any effect at all."

I think that he was doing arils in the Chicago area at the time, so it must be tough.

You are correct Lucy. He did most of his work in Chicago. Not sure when he moved to New Mexico, but Rick Tasco has a picture of him at an iris event in Arizona in 1988; so it is safe to bet he was in that area by then.

Thus; this arilbred is very hardy in Northern climes.

Any new updates on which Iris are sold out? I just looked again and saw some that I starred in the catalog that were not on facebook. I'm guessing they are sold out.

Barbara, I think there are some that they just don't have photos posted yet.

Barbara, some of them are really low in quantity so they didn't end up putting them in the catalog; the same might be true of facebook. If there is something you are interested in just send them an email. I wanted Blaze Valley, but it didn't make it into the catalog because of the reason I mentioned, so I was put on a list until they can verify stock in May.

I have been remiss in keeping everyone up to date! I am SOOOO sorry (10 demerits!)

Seedling 14-AM-10-01

"aril-median OGB- (quarter-bred) seedling 14-AM-10-01. We like the "double signal" effect with the blackish signal surrounded perfectly with the reddish wash, set off by the golden beard. Then you have the lighter red and finally the reddish violet rim, so 4 distinct color bands in the falls! Parentage is New Vision X an SDB seedling going back to 2002 and involving re-blooming SDBs: All That Magic, Replicator, and Royal Overtime, plus non re-blooming SDBs Love Unlimited and Yearling. Lots of re-bloom genes, but no re-bloom here yet."

This one looks like someone hit it and it has a "fat lip"! lol

Seedling 14-AB-02-08

"Arilbreds are starting to bloom now. This seedling 14-AB-02-08 (OGB, 1/2-bred) caught our eye yesterday. Really tucked almost black falls. Parentage is Navajo Velvet X Exotic Treasure."

Seedling 14-01-01-HR

"Hopefully have about reached my long time goal of a space-age SDB that I'm happy with. 14-01-01-HR blooming now, finally have reached good flower size, good form, and appendages all in the same plant. It was a long process with seedlings going back almost 20 years. Pod parent goes back to 1997 and includes the TB Mesmerizer, re-blooming SDBs Replicator, Inner Space, All That Magic. non-re-blooming SDBs Love Unlimited and Yearling, plus a couple of SIGNA pumilas. Pollen parent also goes back to 1997 and includes the TB Solar Fire, re-blooming SDBs Replicator and All That Magic, space-age MDB Punk, and a yellow Hager pumila."

"New seedling blooming 14-AM-12-26 (OGB-, 1/4-bred). Nicely formed pure white with a bluish signal. Parentage is Byzantine Ruby X Replicator."

Seedling 12-AM-05-07

"An interesting aril-median (OGB-) seedling 12-AM-05-07 is in bloom now; we're looking closely at it and "may" introduce it in upcoming years. We like the "Confederate colors", especially the light blue standards, contrasting nicely with the gray falls and burgundy signal/wash. Parentage is New Vision X (Cat's Eye x Replicator). There are re-bloom genes in there from Replicator, but no re-bloom here yet. A lot of my aril-median quarter-bred crosses have re-blooming SDBs in the background. If you're working for nice aril-medians, why not throw re-bloom into the mix!"

Seedling 12-AM-04-31

"Blooming now is 12-AM-04-31, another aril-median (OGB-) that we really like and are looking very closely at for possible introduction soon. Parentage is New Vision X (Cat's Eye x Replicator) almost the same as yesterday's seedling except that the SDB pollen parent of this one is a sib to yesterday's SDB pollen parent. Same cross but a sister seedling selection was used for the pollen. Some of you who have seen the drone video of our garden may recognize this seedling as the one shown in a close-up at the very end of the video."

Seedling 12-AM-04-20

"Continuing to show aril-median seedlings in bloom now. 12-AM-04-20, another nice aril-median quarterbred (OGB-) that we're thinking about for possible introduction. This is a direct sib to the pink with the red spot we showed on March 19: parentage is New Vision X (Cat's Eye x Replicator). Love the gold veining in the standards and the nice contrast of 3 different colors. Again, re-bloom is in the background, but none here yet."

Note: March 19th picture is the one posted before this one!

Seedling 13-SDB-04-08

"SDB seedling 13-SDB-04-08 in bloom now. Nice double beard that is bright tangerine in the middle. And the picture doesn't even begin to capture the intensity of the incredibly bright shiny glowing yellow beard end. When you look at it in the sun, it is nice, but when you stand and block the sunshine, the beard end just glows and explodes with incredible yellow color! Can you tell we just love it! Parentage is All Ruffled Up X a very strong re-blooming seedling going back to 1991! That very involved seedling includes three doses of Yearling, a couple doses of Love Unlimited, Toy Clown, Pal Sam, Auroralita, and Cute or What. This new blooming seedling is somewhat similar close in color to All Ruffled Up, but a little more "orangey", not quite as ruffled, and no re-bloom so far, but OH my that beard! To see it live, you won't believe that color intensity."
