What can I say? Beautiful doesn't begin to cover it. All the photos are wonderful!

J, you must have been in daffodil heaven at the show.

It was actually pretty exciting. Certainly the most daffodils in one place that I've ever encountered. I was just snapping away w/ my old Canon for several hours; surprisingly, most pics came out pretty good. Since returning I've added 108 pics into the daffodil database (so far), many 1st pics for particular cultivars; my acorn accumulation has grown accordingly.

All these beautiful photos make me want to buy more daffodils, but I'm not sure we have the space!

Thanks, jm. Could you then recommend say five excellent varieties for my corners? You're clearly the expert! Big Grin

He'd be a good candidate, maybe William as well. Both are quite knowledgeable about daffodils.

Sallysmom, the soil here is clay, the weather is zone 8b (south of England). The daffs we have all seem to thrive and certainly naturalise easily.

Most daffodils are comfortable in Z 8, the majority are Z 3 through Z 8. Z 4 through Z 9 are the second most numerous.

I didn't know that - thank you, jm. Does it mean that there are some daffodils that wouldn't grow here in zone 8b? We have a few at our place in France, which is zone 10a, but they were already in the garden when we bought the house, they are pretty ordinary looking, and when they flower it's not for long. I attributed the short period of bloom to the warm weather, but that was simply a guess.

Poeticus (Division 9) are recommended as Z 3 through Z 7.
Your assessment regarding length of bloom is probably right.

You have some lovely daffodil clumps, Mika. They look very happy.

I wouldn't really want to suggest daffodils to you, as the soil here is pure sand so very different from yours, plus we have the narcissus bulb fly so any surviving daffodil is my current favorite Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! That said I have been impressed with 'Golden Dawn' for its very long bloom and nice fragrance. However not sure how it manages in clay soil. I believe 'Petrel' was mentioned previously in this thread and I thought that one was fabulous last year when I tried it in a pot. Very powerful strong scent and very long flowering (but last spring was extremely cold).

Mika, your photos are enchanting! So beautiful! I'm especially fond of those white cyclamineus- what a graceful beauty!
Off the top of my head, 5 favorites I would recommend are:
Pink Charm
Ara
Hawera
Erlicheer
Blushing Lady (can't go wrong with any from the jonquilla division, especially those hybridized by Brent Heath)

William, gorgeous photos! Your George P.Baker has great color! I planted mine near Beth Evans, and it looks very much the same, maybe just a tad deeper in color.

Thank you, Neal! I now have twelve new varieties to seek out - possibly more if @sallysmom has any suggestions?
The wonderful thing with daffodils is that I can plant them in the lawns and they grow really happily (we have a lot of lawns!) Hilarious!

Thanks, Neal Smiling

I remember you planting George P. Baker and was wondering if you were going to share photos of it. Sorry to hear that the color on yours aren't even close to what you expected (and paid for). I vaguely recall reading that there often are errors with this particular clone - inferior seedlings being sold and so on Sad .
