Thanks, Neal. Oddly, not many people here grow erythroniums. I really like them and hope to expand my collection - I'd love to have them all through the wooded parts of the garden. Do you have any photos of them at your previous home?

I don't see them grown often here either, which is a shame. I'll have to do some looking, it has been 9 years since I moved so I'm not sure where those photos would be at the moment. The yard of my previous home was surrounded by forest and there was a stream running through the front yard. In spring the forest floor was carpeted with erythronium, Dutchman's breeches, and Trillium grandiflorum.

Yes--I see this a lot, sometimes I even get seven, which seems weirder than eight
as far as I know, it is 'normal' genetic mutation

Thanks for the link Dirt. I have the occasional Iris or Lily that have 8 "petals" but nothing consistent year to year. Maybe this is environmental vs. Bronze Charm being genetic.

@sallysmom oooo!!!! That's so pretty!! I've definately got height envy! (The gardening rules here ban anything over 18"; I'd LOVE to have gladiolas. . . )

Hi Neal, here again, I also got some Erythronium seeds which of course I've got no previous experience in sowing them. Would you also winter sow them? Thanks again Thank You! Arturo

Although I've never tried Erythronium from seed, I would try wintersowing for them. Since they are native to areas with cold winters there's a good chance germination is helped along by some cold treatment.

Thanks Neill, I found the WS forum and read the head article. So i'm definitely taking that option for more of the slow germinators and close to wild cultivars. It will spread my winter indoor sowing to other plants that require slightly more pampering. Thank you very much Thank You! Arturo

Wow, William, brilliant link! I really love my erythroniums and they are increasing pretty well. I decided that at least some of the increase was by seeds because the new plants were a little distance from the ones I had planted. But having looked at the info on your link, I will be harvesting seeds and hopefully speeding up the process. Smiling Thank You!

Thanks so much @William for your link. I find those different species mentioned irresistible! Slowly my dappled shade garden is growing from the initial planning stage as real guests of my understory, and ground level friends become available. i'm starting now with E. grandiflorum along with the other group the hardy cyclamens. I do have a few other little guys (bulbs) on my list, plus my other weakness: the shade loving primulas and auriculas. But having so many challenges is part of the joy of gardening! Rolling my eyes. Thank You!
