Here in the east deer are a nuisance in suburban neighborhoods.
Deer do what they do and procreate because the predator balance is askew. The coyote population is short and our neighborhood fox cant do the job. Cougars would create more of a problem than they would solve.
It is illegal to feed deer in New York State. That is a program that has little affect.Humane kills are the latest idea.
Not practiced here but in the FingerLakes region.
The neighborhood here doesn't allow fences for aesthetic reasons so the deer roam theu my expensive plants and eat at will.
I have used 4 different repellants over the past 8 years. Not effective.
Every season I watch the lilies nipped off before they can bloom. That's a lot of dollars not to mention muscle power gone to waste.
I know they need to eat,BUT, there are woods and a creek that flows thru the division ,still the deer prefer the gardens.
So deflating to make the effort sometimes. I no longer plant lilies and hostas are out of the question.

Maybe those with deer problems could put out deer food to deter then from eating the garden plants. But I guess that could be a double edged sword maybe.

Definitely. Then we become part of their dining circuit. Next they'd want cocktails!

I think I posted this here.

Remember the tree that burned when a barn next to it burned. They finished it.

Neat pic of a giant baseball bat. I am new to the site. I am doing a new project with landscaping rocks around my above ground pool in full sun. I would like to put some perennials around it. Any ideas of any perennials that will stand up to crazy kids splashing chlorinated water on them occasionally?

Welcome! Lindsay!

I did a google search for "plants near chlorine pools" and several articles popped up. Most emphasized tropicals, but I did see several mentions that most plants tolerate splashing from pools- some better than others. Plants known to be salt tolerant are good choices, and tough plants like ornamental grasses and echinacea were mentioned. One article said plants with thick, waxy leaves are good choices, so I think various sedums would work well. I also saw mention of various herbs, like thyme and lavender, as being good choices.

I have lots of sedum I can split up. I can also move some lavender. Stella d'oro daylilies should be able to handle it too. Thanks😀

Thank you, Neal and Pirl. I wanted to make a sitting area to enjoy my back yard and rows of daylilies. I don't have much shade, but we enjoy the fire pit and picnic table when the kids are here. Some more comfortable chairs would be a plus.

Here is another small bed we put in this Spring. I think I am going to enlarge it in a few months. I collect vintage water cans, wheels etc. The old bell is from Dad's farm.

Teresa,
Oh wow! That looks s SO NICE! What a beautiful big yard you have!
Love the hay bales too. You'll have to show us your collections. I love old things and the bell is an awesome family relic.
