I've had Ruby Spider for a few years, but have never had a poly bloom on it until this year. However, this year it has had at least one poly bloom per day for the last four days, but amazingly had 4 poly blooms open at once today
One of the blooms was a 5x5! I think perhaps letting it 'clump up' has had a positive impact on its performance. If I could have only one daylily (huge gasp!) this would be it.
This is my only other 5x5 bloom, and it also grew to clump strength since I decided to quit moving them around so much in their bed
Regina, those are great. I've never grown Ruby Spider but if it keeps that up I'll get it. What's your 5x5? You didn't mention a name. A seedling of yours?
Pompous Polly had it's first bloom today. Last year I didn't get to see it. The night before the first bloom was due the deer ate all the buds.

'Marked By Lydia' now has the distinction of being the daylily that has given the most poly blooms for me. Don't see very many among my selections of daylily plants.
I had a seedling have a poly for its very first bloom today, huge bloom, we are having very high winds, so please excuse my hand. I actually had to stand holding it for over a minute waiting for enough of a lull in the wind, for the petals to lay down. Afternoon pic, I'm sure it looked much better before wind storm.

Gale. I think your seedling looks very regal. IMHO many but not all polys look great. I think yours is a winner. I kept looking at it over and over again.
Thank you, for the nice comments. I'm not knowledgeable enough to look at the buds and tell if it will be a poly bloom, I will just have to wait and see. That was the seedlings maiden bloom, I haven't looked into the parents to see if there are any poly bloomers.
gardenglory,
Thanks for the reminder to check the buds.
GDJCB,
Just check the segments of the buds, you will be able to tell easily. http://garden.org/ideas/view/L...
