I agree That Cym is fabulous. I'm so jealous, all my Cyms are just sittin there looking leafy. Maybe this week's cold weather will give them a nudge towards blooming. I did have one bloom last year. Considering I own about 6 of them, that's not great on average.

Wonderful "kids" got me these for birthday - I've managed to not kill them. Yet. Never even tried orchids! I've got them in bright shade and they're still blooming! Sorry to sound stupid, but: what are their names? What else do I need to do for them besides not overwater 'em?

Nice blooms, Julie!
Just look around here at the Orchid forum, we have lots of threads about Phalaenopsis, how to water, pot them up etc.

Carol, I love your Cymbidium! Looks great! Lovey dubby

It's funny that everybody likes that Cym. That's my least favorite one, but it is tough. That piece was left over when I divided that plant, so I just threw it back in it's original pot...no medium at all, and it has filled up with avocado leaves. I've lost most of my Cyms, but that one is thriving. Maybe I should have done that with the rest of them. Hilarious!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Who needs roses for Valentine's Day when we all have these gorgeous orchid blooms. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Julie that Phal on the top is absolutely gorgeous! I used to be able to make my Phals rebloom and have keikis but now I'm not doing so well with them.

I love cymbidiums as well. I used to buy 2 for me and 1 for grandma, everytime Costco carries them, but they die on me after the blooms are gone so I quit buying them.

Well, my most awaited new bloom on Lowe's clearance Catt (lower one) bloomed exactly 8 months after I bought them 50% off from Lowe's. (I bought 2 on the death rack and they had no blooms.) I was pleasantly surprised to see that the blooms are identical with my no ID blooming ones and the tag says "Pot Edith N Adams". So I guess mine is not George King "Serendipity". My original Catt has fragrance though but it usually comes out a couple days after opening and I can smell it better in the afternoon. This new bloom has no fragrance yet. Nevertheless, I'm a Happy camper with this particular variety, this is a wonderful bloomer.

My No I'D red re bloomed again, maybe this will open tomorrow.

I'll have to double check my wish list and confirm that Chia Lin is near the top!

It was very nice to play in the greenhouse this morning, while it was very cold outside. We did manage to take a walk once the temperature climbed to 12 degr F. By afternoon, it was not windy any longer, so it was actually nice outside.
In bloom today -

It was around 2005 when at an Orchid Fest I bought a flask of Paph seedlings, just for the fun of it, I wanted to see how difficult it was to grow them to blooming size.
I unflasked about 30 babies then, lost some here and there, and then next Spring outside the birds scattered them all over the place since they liked the short Sphagnum pieces for nest building. I was left with two small plants, one of them flowered seven years later. Then the plants sat there again until now.
I have no idea why the spike is so short! any ideas?
This is Paph Lynne Cassidy

Ooh, I've been outside nearly all day today, it was such a perfect day. I schlepped every orchid outside for a dose of fert, and tomorrow, fungicide too! My bloomers for today: the purple one is a Trader Joe's special, the top left flower is the right color and I don't know why the others look redder. Then we have Blc. Punakea fading elegantly.

Gigi, your new bloomer is just gorgeous, and the floof in your last picture, amazing! Chia Lin is a champion for floofiness, for sure.

Ursula, I love that white Den nugentii - I'm crazy for white flowers with that clean elegant form. The Paph is really neat too, sitting right down on its pretty leaves. I'm thinking your Bc. Hippodamia looks very much like the little Brassies we got in Apopka last time - hope I can find a picture . . . They must be closely related, but these are very small flowers.

The little Brassie is labeled B. Jairak Kiss so probably no clue as to its ancestry. I sure have seen (and bought) a lot of orchids with the name Jairak on them. I guess they are a big grower in Thailand or somewhere? Just googled Jairak orchids and got pictures of dozens of Tols, Vandas and other genera all with their name. There was even a picture of B. Jairak Kiss 'Spot Lip'. I have V. Jairak Heartthrob as well, and I have had several Jairak Tolumnias.

Maybe Jim would look up the name Jairak in OrchidWiz for us? Just curious whether any of these are registered names.

Jim?
The RHS has you wading through four pages of Jairak or 73 hits through different Genera. Smiling

Interestingly enough Jairak Kiss is not listed.

Yikes! Thanks for wading anyway. It's not important, just that the name keeps popping up and I was curious.
