Stuff in bloom today -
The Dialaelia Mizoguchi 'Princess Kiko' keeps on opening

This Dinema polybulbon grew like crazy the first couple of years after I got it and then one Summer a few years ago it almost dimped. But a small corner survived and it is gently rebounding.

So lovely, Ursula. Princess Kiko really gives the vibe of a refined Japanese princess doesn't she! Lovely.

I have a few things in bloom that I've already shown everyone twice . . . or three times. Rolling my eyes. But I did find a nice cluster of buds on my big NOid Catt this morning. So it seems to be forgiving me for schlepping it back and forth into the house, and keeping it imprisoned for a week now. Luckily the kitchen skylight has afforded it a little bit of good light, at least. Others are not quite so happy . . . but the weather's getting ready to warm up a bit Hurray!

Oh, what the heckia - here's Lc. Renate again just for jollies. Did I see a big plant of this one amongst your show pictures yesterday?

what an interesting and beautiful flower your Dinema polybulbon is, Ursula..very nice!
Elaine, if I had a Lc. Renate in bloom ...I would be posting pictures of it everyday! Love that one!
Jim hosted a mulching party at his house today and we were talking about your Winston Churchill quote at the bottom of your page...It just cracks me up every time I read it!

Hard to beat old Winnie for a good zinger, right? Smiling Lady Astor "Mr. Churchill, you are drunk!" Sir Winston "Lady Astor you are ugly . . . but I'll be sober in the morning".

Any time you two mulching maniacs want to come visit, I'll treat to lunch and a tour of Selby's orchid festival (starts this Sunday, goes through March) in exchange for a half hour's mulching. My garden helper has once again gone awol (I expect she has found a real job, darnit) and although things are fairly orderly right now, you know a garden is never "done".

Pretty sure that Patty got a Renate last time we were in Apopka - at Krull-Smith's I think. Keep your eyes open because it's certainly around. Between that one, the big NOid and Yellow Bird . . there's always something blooming it seems!

I have a really fine, mounted on cypress knee, Ctna. Renate 'S & W'. She seems to be a happy plant. I am patiently waiting for some flowers from her.

Looking good, Ken. I'm sure you'll see flowers on that one pretty soon - if you don't sell it first! They're prolific bloomers.

Shot a few more flowers in the yard today since it was such a beautiful day. My Spathoglottis are still going strong, as they've been covered up in the big frost tent on all the cold nights. These are getting a little redder in the cool though.

Love that Spath! I notice the difference in color in the cooler weather here too. I hung the third division of my Maikai Mayumi out under the lemon tree a few months ago, and while a couple of leaves look bad, the color of the blooms is much darker in the full winter sun and no protection from the cold.

I love those Spath. flowers, Elaine. What is the variety? I have started to dabble in Spath. but they are usually extremely hard to find (tiny seedlings).

Ken, I don't know the variety on that one. I got two starts of it years ago, the first time I went to Apopka with Jim. It's the one that I nicknamed my "opal" Spath because it shows so many colors through its bloom period. It's by far the most robust of all the colors I have.

I've seen the same one in really large clumps with 3ft. flower stems outside the greenhouse at Selby, too. It's just labeled "Spathoglottis plicata".

Well, there is a change in the Apopka trip date, mainly due to my inability to read. Check your calendar for March 18th. That will give us enough time to put a fresh coat of fire retardant on our buying shoes. Great shopping and we get to meet Jean and Tara.

OOps! Forgot about the third division of Maikai Mayumi The leaves sure didn't like the full sun and cold, but the flowers are much darker than the protected ones

Thanks, Jim. Not much compared to what you have, but I'm down to 64 orchids now, and live in a black hole as far as weather. Just trying to keep the west coast alive on here.
