Well... there's a little time between these two ... joys .. and we'll have a few brugs to set flowers.. that I'll share here...
for those that aren't famlar with my situation here.. We're in Brooklyn.. overlookng lower Manhattan.. growing in pots and containers on my roof top..
Irene came through.. and shredded alot of things that stood up above the fence.. and was fairly easy on the lower leaves and plants.... and plants that were some what shielded ..
you can see the sparce folage on the upper parts of the brugs.. Georga Peach on the right.. almost always flowering.. and on the left.. Emerald Frost.. a great growing brug.. perhaps one of the most vigorous growing brugs.. and one that flowers wonderfully.. once it has grown out some...
ths is the lower part of the same Emerald Frost plant.. in it's somewhat sheltered corner..

Nice pics of your brugs. Sorry that your plants were damaged by Irene. We're dealing with TS Lee now, with the intermittent winds and rain. Thanks for sharing pics of your plants.

Gordon,

Your rooftop is still beautiful with blooming burgmansias!!! Enjoy seeing your photos each year.

Very strange New York City getting a hurricane! Thought I had misunderstood the weather report when I first heard about a hurricane heading your way. Glad you all had no real serious damage.

HI Dollie...
Yes.. we got the hurricane this time.. they said ya'll needed a break.. so we stepped up.. Lucly in hit in Coney Island.. so we were about 10 miles to the left of it.. slightly milder on the left side.. and it had decreased to just gusts of 60 MPH.. .. NYC sits tucked into the coast so we're often passed by.. but ths one ran right up that way.. to go on up into New England...with the rain it couldn't dump all on us... but it did try...
This weekend here will be about as paralitc for us.. but we'll get through ths also.. they are unveilng the memorial garden to the famlies first.. among a bushell of other actvities... the garden is amazing... along with two square fountains... about an acre each... each sitting in the footprint of one of the two towers. around the edges of these twoo squares.. the water cascades down into the . footprint... around this is a forest of 400 trees.. each grown out with gigantic root balls sitting in containers... mcro chips n each tree control the irrigation for each of them on an individual basis.. many are swamp oaks.. so I guess they are covered for overwatering.. also..
Got to catch on my blooming photos.. I'm a week behind there... some great other flowers going on also...
Plumeria are real slow this year..to flower here.. but soon maybe...
and I've been looking for a photo I'd made.. with a lovely plumie inflo and the background of the World Trade Towers.... it was on the opening page to one of the plumie sites after 2001.. but it's nowhere I can find it...
did you ever get to make your foam project there ...
Did the last storm give you a bunch of rain...
well all the best there...
Gordon

What in the world do you do with all those plants come freezing/snow/cold weather? You have a humongous penthouse apt. that will hold all those pots? Do you cut back? If so, I'd love a double pink cutting. My "Susanne" has lovely, huge pink blooms, but singes. "Sexy Lady" is a bit smaller.

They are beautiful as usual, they certainly do like wherever you have them, and if you have cuttings to spare I would love a double, (or tripple) any color.

Thanks Cherie.. it's really all their doing.. I do try and help them get it going though.. but they are really doing OK on their own .. but I like to help..
Anna.. well in years past.. I've brought about 1/2 down... the other half I put in a 10x 12' x 10' tall... room/house I build for them out of 2" thick insulation foam sheets.. a small heater is able to maintain a constant low temperature for them to rest.. n the spring I cut plastic wndows in the roof to wake them up early.. and get them used to working again..
I keep looking forward to being bowled over by a double... although do love my double blue one... but few can match the splendor of a big single throwing hundreds of blooms
Yes Doris.. you're on the list

I have about 30 brugs and have ordered 3 more. Big Grin They all go in my sunroom (that is attached to the back of the house ) for the winter. I heat only at night when the temps out there could fall into the 20's, During the day the sun quickly warms it up to a out 70 at night the heater might keep it at 50's. I'm determined they are going to go dormant this winter and rest. but I have had them bloom for me out there in February.

Great blooms, Gordon! What is the name of that pink single with the gorgeously long corolla teeth in your last "they're all blasting tonght" post?

I agree with you that nothing beats a single Brugs with hundreds of flowers on it . . . in addition to the more intense fragrance.

Hi Veronica...
That Brug you asked about... is a long time favorite of mine.. I've had her for a long time... and have sent lots of cuttngs of her out... she goes by the name for me of... Gordon's Best NOID I surely wish I had information on it.. like was it a seedlng grown out of mine or someone elses seeds.. or was it a lovely named varety that lost it's name.. really can't say... but it was always such a perfect plant for me.. with the best looking dark pink flower.. with, to my eye , the perfect confirmaton.. I didn't want to just give it a name.. or have it just be a NOID here.. or elsewher ...so to fit it's .. exceptional form I have given it that working name.. the picture here is this brug..
