My old plant is really "resting" right now, it lost all leaves when it was supposed to spike! That's why I jumped at the chance this Winter to pick up these gorgeous cultivars, especially this large plant here.

So, let me get this straight in my mind's-eye. Your plant is blooming without nary a leaf?

Ken, no!
To clarify, the plant I posted yesterday with two tall spikes is fully leafed out.
My old plant dropped all leaves this Spring/late Winter instead of leafing out and spiking. I said jokingly, it is resting.....

I may have to sit down with my Sarcoglottis plants and have a heart-to-heart, explaining that they are supposed to lose leaves and "rest" during the winter months. Whistling

Don't throw it out yet, Ursula. Mine did the same last year, held its leaves into the winter, then dropped them in spring and stayed dormant well into the warm weather before it came back. Confused, I guess. It's still dormant now, too. We had a high of 85 today . . . Confused Rolling my eyes.

All the Phal. that are blooming right now. The white one is not in the photo because its too big to move so gets its own shot. It has been blooming since Christmas on 4 bloom stalks and now is developing little black spots from getting hit by the misters every couple of hours. The last one is my Valentine's gift from Hubby.

Ooo, they're lovely Daisy. Could the spots on your white Phal flowers be from thrips, maybe? It looks a little too random to be from misting.

Wish my DH would buy me orchids as gifts . . . they had Den spectabile as a 'baby in a bag' at Lowe's last time I was there, but I just couldn't bring myself to shell out $13 for such a small plant. (now I'm hungry for calamari . . . Rolling my eyes. Big Grin

Love your spectabile, Daisy. Wait until it gets 6 feet across.

Ursula, love your Easter tribute. Last night was emotional and glorious. I should be able to talk again in about a week. Happy Easter all.

I thought I would celebrate Easter with terrestrials this year.

Jim, those are beautiful!

Elaine, 4 months of high humidity. No thrips. Actually, since I took that photo, another arm is blooming and I see two more off one of the old bloom stalks. The orchid is an over-achiever. Smiling

Yes, I was excited with the spectabile (it was on my wish list). But I'm terrified of the potential for size. Its sitting on a top shelf with a couple Catts so it can hang all it wants. Hopefully, it won't shove its shelfmates onto the floor. Smiling So far (one month in) it has bloomed so I really do know that its spectabile (Hubby found it on Ebay) and it hasn't expanded to unmangeable size. But there's always next month...

Another orchid going onto wish list: Phaius Microburst 'Wild Thing' Lovey dubby

Gorgeous Cyms, Jim. You beat me to the punch on the Phaius.
Phaius tankervillea 'Ocktoberfest' and Phaius microburst 'Dan Mendenhall' which is a huge plant I got in Apopka for $8 a couple of years ago.
