Call someone, anyone brother, sister, aunt, cousin, neighbor, pastor, anyone and have them help you to ER. You do not need to drive with two pain pills in your system.

If you can't get a ride, call your local police station and explain the problem. Tell them you didn't why you didn't want to call an ambulance and see what they say or do. First and foremost do what the others said.

Call someone but it sounds like you can not move well on your own, so it might be hard for someone else to get you to ER. Personally I would call 911 and get the help you sound like you need, remember they are trained to handle you in a safe manner and get you help ASAP.

I would go to an orthopedic ER. The Orthopedic / PT clinics often have emergency rooms for this. Now I am not a doctor and this should not substitute for medical advice -- I am telling you what I would do. I would call an ambulance service any time I felt I needed to an ER ...but I would tell them not an ' emergency ' if it was not and that I need a medical transport level service. If I were incapable of standing and protecting myself...I would not get in a taxi nor an uber situation. You could also call a friend if available.

An Orthopedic doc is capable of diagnosing a clot..an er
Doc is not so hot with ortho issues (my opinion) but certainly has the testing resources like CTs etc and perfusion scan equipment to test for clot. The ortho clinic likely has a ct but would not have the perfusion scan..I do not think.. That doc would send you promptly to an ER.

My belief is that pain from a clot does not come or go with exertion and rest or weight
A clot can hurt pretty bad tho.
The leg sometimes has a different temperature than the other..
However...YOU are not able to make any diagnosis and you cannot even protect yourself if there is a fire, break in or home emergency. You also have an acute condition that needs to be looked at. If the pain is not your leg..but your hip or your spine...you should not mess with that. Your bladder and bowel control could be permanently impacted. So either way..you should head to AN ER of some sort.

I think it is a 911 situation, you cannot get out of bed to feed yourself or your animals, you need to be taken out on a stretcher to the ER ASAP!

I'm terribly sorry. I didn't make it to the ER (yet). KO'd by the combo of pain meds & muscle relaxer, I fell fast asleep almost while still finishing that post. I slept soundly all day long with the open laptop still beside me on the bed. I had taken that 2nd pain pill (allowed by my prescription) in my desperation to be able to walk enough to feed the cats. I finally awoke a few minutes ago, the cats still at the back door waiting for their breakfast.

Strangely, I awoke just now to find that the severe leg pains have vanished, and I am now able to walk with minimal discomfort. I don't know if this welcome change is a delayed reaction to the meds (the pain pills should have worn off by now) or just more of the unpredictable nature of this leg ailment, whatever it is. I must admit that I find it most confusing, having had such excruciating leg pain this morning that I could not walk a step and now to be virtually pain-free. (shaking my head in confusion).

I wish that I had made it to the ER earlier while the leg pain was still raging. I really would like to know the origin of this debilitating and unpredictable pain. Plus, I'm beginning to worry about potential consequences should it remain untreated. Sadly, the one thing on which I feel confident is that I will have another chance (to get to the ER while in pain), probably tomorrow morning if not sooner.

Thank you very much for your posts and suggestions.

I still haven't had a chance to finish reading all of your comments and suggestions yet, but I want to thank everyone for your responses. I will probably go to the ER later tonight or tomorrow, as soon as the extreme pain returns. Unfortunately, we are expecting Tropical Storm Colin to be here hammering us tomorrow. Our weather has already deteriorated considerably due to the approaching storm. Depending on how bad our weather gets, I may have to wait until Wed for my ER visit.

I will definitely let you know asap when I have it to the ER and what the verdict is. If you don't hear from me in the next few days, it will mean that I'm temporarily unable to access the computer. Worst case, I guess it's possible they may even keep me at the hospital depending on the diagnosis.

Let's hope there's a very simple and easily eliminated cause. I woke up one day earlier this year with a useless left leg. I could only move it by hand, literally picking it up and putting it where I wanted it to go. Standing on it was out of the question. The pain was excruciating. I managed to crawl to another room to get to a telephone and call a neighbor for help. She borrowed a walker from another neighbor and brought it over. With the walker, I was able to hop around on my right foot for various necessities, such as feeding the cats. On the second day I saw my doctor, who ruled out all of the obvious causes. We finally narrowed it down to a new pair of arch supports I had worn in my shoes the day before the leg went out. They somehow threw me so far off balance that one leg wouldn't work. The pain gradually lessened and I was able to walk on my own by the end of a week. I hope your pain turns out to have an equally simple cause.

May I suggest that while you are not in pain, you see an Ortho doc?
You can tell the doc what you experienced.
The tests will be what they are
They will look at your spine
The doc will manipulate your hips perhaps and spine..if it is spasm....you may feel that pain again and the doc will observe and remedy it with pain killers and a hospitalization and so the painkillers will be significant.
It is not a good idea to wait for a repeat performance..you don't know what it is and laying in the ER for hours and hours in pain is no fun..they won't get to that pain relief like you think they will..they will want to figure it out first.

I agree with Rosie.

I'm glad you checked in and the pain is gone, but I suspect it's short lived. You need x-rays!

My DH, who currently suffers from debilitating pain in his legs, just finished reading 'The Pain Cure RX: the Yass Method for Diagnosing & Resolving Chronic Pain' by Dr. Mitchell Yass. My DH recommends the book. It explains how to figure out what is happening to you, and suggests ways to treat your condition.

June,
I believe in finding answers myself, first. I have come to the conclusion that a Dr just wants to sell you pills and not tell you alternative ways to help yourself. I'm glad your husband is researching and I hope he finds answers.

How are you Dream?
