HI all:
The good news is that I was able to recover my ATP account this evening after losing it for a month to a new hard drive I had Apple replace. Then two weeks ago, I lost my synchronized mail account w/aol. Tonight, I managed to fix all my problems. Hurray
It's about all these new plants I ordered this past Winter. I must have been nuts. 36 plants including some gifts. It has taken me a month to just plant 24 daylilys. I am digging in virgin territory, thru sheer bedrock, with stones the size of my hands and larger. It takes me 2 hrs just to finish one hole by which time I am exhausted. Usually 2 plants a day and then I give up. That includes all my special soil amendments, topped with a cedar mulch. Two of the sellers on The Lily Auction only sent half of my orders. One sent me a refund check, the other, well, I am still looking for the money. Both sellers are well known. I was NOT pleased. I went straight to the hybridizer and brought one of the missing plants directly from them. Which is what I intend to do from now on. I can't give enough praises to Floyd Cove, Pete Harry, and the Lamberstsons. Beautiful plants all. Also, Abundant Daylilies on the LA sent very nice plants, on time, and correct. Then Vermont had 8 days of rain. I couldn't dig or do any outside work at all. I finally called a Landscaping Co. up here to come cut my grass for me which was a foot tall on 1/2 acre of land. This is a chore I usually do myself all thru the summer. This Spring I couldn't because I had all these plants to get into the ground. And, I am still digging. Next year NO new plants. And there are still new seedlings I started this past Winter from seed to get planted in the seedling beds. One of my new plants, Fringy, is blooming now. But the blooms are small because it is a new plant and not fully acclimated to her new environment. I hope to have all these new plants in the ground by this weekend. This has taken way too much of my time. I have seen blooms coming on several older plants, 'Polar Dusk' which has never bloomed for me, and 'Emerald Dream' always an early bloomer. I don't know whats happening on the lower gardens as I have been just too busy to look. In between the daylily marathon, I had to plant my deck gardens which is where I live in the Summer....all large pots, flower boxes and hanging baskets. Most but not all of that is done. One more deck chair, a few tables, and then I will collapse to beautiful views and mountain air.
The sun finally reappeared here on Tuesday, and its getting hot. This weekend will be in the 80's and close to 90. The evenings are still refreshingly cool. Great for sleeping. No air-conditioned needed yet.
Little 'Kismet' is watching me go through all my gardening chores, and wondering why I won't take her with me to the gardens. Why, you ask? Because while I am digging, she wonders off down the road where cars are, and doesn't have a clue. She is still a puppy. In the evening we walk the gardens together, and she knows exactly what I have planted, and where I stopped. She is curious about everything. Her vocabulary is increasing by the day. And because of the bears, she is highly suspicious of anything that moves or outside noises at night time. She has found her voice, and with Pomeranians that can be a barking problem when she senses something out of the ordinary. There are a lot of creepy crawlies and much wild life here that prey at night.
I missed the raffle, and will have to wait a whole year till the next one. But truthfully, I have enough this year. I hope everyone won something wonderful.
I know your gardens are coming into bloom now, some in the south are still in bloom. The first rainy day I will be back online to look at all the wonderful pictures.. Had a b'day a few days ago, and spent it digging!! Dropping into bed now zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's
