I sent a couple of pics to Mr. Buchite but I noted I was happy with the price and the plant in general. It would be nice to know one way or the other but it is not all that important. I had seen where he had offered a species rosea for something like $125 so it must be a scarce plant.

Jerry,
Mine are just starting to open. I saw a few loosened petals last night.

Karen, Hidden Springs Flower Farm is just North and East of Decorah Iowa. Maybe 1.5 hours away. I like that purple foliage on your Fernie is beautiful.

I was out all day yesterday weeding and digging dandelions out of my large patch. I did manage to get five of my peony roots planted. These are the ones I picked up from Hollingsworth in Des Moines in March. I still have one bare root to go... Then I need to kill off more grass and plant the other six or so I heeled into the veggie garden last fall. Whistling

Anyway, I'm taking the day off tomorrow to go back out and play in the dirt. Hurray!

Financial tip: Buy stock in Advil. Hilarious!

I just got an email from Adelman's saying they would issue a credit for the plant as it is blooming red.
What are you going to do, Jerry and Karen?
I like the plant.
LG - My garden grows with love and a lot of hard work.

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Your stock tip is right on money, Diann!
Didn't know you live so close to Hidden Springs Flower Farms. It must be nice to visit it during bloom time.

I also got the email, LG! I will ask them to use it as a credit toward a purchase of more peonies.

I just answered the e-mail from Adelman's and said I was quite happy with the plant I received, especially considering the price. I would have liked to have had a true species rosea but not willing to fork over $125 to HSFF if they even had one for sale this year.

Who knows, perhaps we have a very special fern leaf, hybrid or not. That deep rose compliments the bright reds of my singles and doubles. We shall see what develops with the plant next year.

This is my Pink Fernie...

I got mine through a friend who had gotten it through the Peony Garden of Center Point Iowa (which may or may not be in business, I don't know for sure). I had to move him last year cause he was getting crowded by other plants so I don't expect it to bloom this year. I'm just happy it came back up. Smiling

I also got the email and asked if it was possible to get the correct peony instead. I'll let you know what I hear back!

Ticker,
I was out all day weeding the Rose Bed. It was a two day job and it wasn't the worst bed.
Have a great day playing today!
Pretty in pink!

I contacted Adelman about Rosea fernleaf and they issue me a credit for a gift certificate that I can use toward a new purchase. I think this works out great for everyone. As i don't plan to place an order this year, but with this incentive, I may place an order with them. So they gain a sale.

The picture posted by Ticker is a carbon copy of the rosea shown in the HPS paper. Except for having an additional species fern leaf for personal satisfaction, I like the plant sent as a mistake better . The deep rose color adds some extra pop to the other fern leafs. I would have been happy to pay $30 for it had it been listed correctly.

Jerry, I think you asked me about my Fernleaf hybrid some posts back. There is no species name associating with this hybrid as it was sold as a "fernleaf hybrid" by Adelman a few years ago. Although the foliage is finely divided, it is nowhere close to the fine cut of a true p. tenufolia specie.

There are several possibilities of hybrids being created by bees or even hummingbirds in the remote gardens. The only benefit to have a species is the expectation of producing viable seeds or the knowledge of having a fairly scarce peony. I think the hybrid looks nice.

This is a fern leaf hybrid 'Windchimes' purchased in 2010 from HSFF. It has had a rough life but now is looking like it will survive. No buds showing so it will not bloom this year.

Jerry, would you like a division of my "fernleaf hybrid" to add to your collection of fernleafs? I am ready to move it this fall so I can easily divide it and send one your way.

Thanks for the offer of the FL hybrid. I am not certain how much longer I will keep my present collection. I will know in the Fall whether I want to expand the present bed and add new soil to it. I will check back about digging time.
