Wow, I feel better but I feel your pain.
I have natural gas.
My summer average down south is approx. 75 dollars a month combined.
Winter now averages around 250 but I rarely used the space heater in the kitchen and the wall furnace up stairs.
I have had over 300 when I turn more on.

I turn the thermostat to 58 at night.

Tarev, why can't you control the temperature on your mini-split system? I control both the heat in the winter and the AC in the summer.

Wow, @RpR. My wife (and perhaps me) would freeze at 58 F. We set our thermostat at 68 F all day and night and my wife still likes for me to turn it up to 72 F when I get up (before she does). She likes to feel some heat when she steps out of the shower. I spoil her. Whistling

I was crying over my recent electric bill which was in the 'luxury' rate zone because I used so much. I think it is partly the broken seal on the refrigerator that had it running non stop all month plus we put the pool on a timer of an hour a day and in the past we only ran the filter once or twice a week. My bill (for 2 months) was $8000 pesos which at today's rate is $391us dollars, not bad for 2 months really. My usual bill though is about $4000 pesos for the same 2 months so half that. The water bill is about $12us a month and we have a 350 liter gas tank on the roof that we have filled once, sometimes twice, a year. I always have it filled right before the main hurricane season so if we get one it is as heavy as it can get. this last fill it was pretty empty and cost $2,240mxp or $110us dollars. That should last us until next summer. We only use gas for cooking, the clothes dryer and the water heater. No heat here Rolling on the floor laughing Just to rub it in a bit, my annual property taxes are just over $100us a year plus $450us for the land trust I need as a foreigner. I pay no house insurance, I consider that I'm self insuring. There's not much that can burn in a stone house and we are so rarely even threatened by a hurricane that I have already saved more than it would cost to repair and replace from one. When we lived on the coast I paid for hurricane insurance and used it a lot, twice in one year even.

That's good a good price for water. Water in Texas has gotten expensive. Too much drought and of course, a really hefty profit for water companies. If we go into a big enough drought in the US, it'll be really tough here. Probably wouldn't be affordable to use much water other than drinking. I really expect that to happen sooner or later. Whether we (DH and I) will still be alive then, who knows? The future in this country...kind of scary to wonder about.

Our water is included in our rent, and we pay a "building tax" of about $120 a year (we rent the lot, so don't have a property tax but we do have to pay a tax for our home). Whistling

No offense intended to our Canadian neighbors but one year we were camped on a beach in Mexico for the winter, all the other RVs were Canadian. They were giving us so much grief (it was while Bush Jr was President) that it just got tiresome. One night after a few beers one of them started in on how the US was going to run out of water and Canada would have all the water and then what. I looked at him really seriously and said 'after all the grief you've given me over what we have done for oil, what the h*ll do you think we would do for water?" Big silence. I tried to keep reminding them that I was sitting on a beach in Mexico with sand in my toes and a beer in my hand so obviously I had nothing to do with what went on in Wash DC but you know, it was a hard point to get across.

All electric here, septic tank & well so no city water bill - only the electricity it takes to run the well pump. We're on "budget billing" where they average you out over the entire year. It may vary a few dollars this way or that but not more than a few dollars. I pay around $160 mo.

The snow-blower is kaput again.
I have been shoveling up north for thirty years and had a snow blower for about one half that time, well all the years I had a snow blower last year was the only year I did not have to shovel all by hand at least once.

They are not cheap box store seconds but bought from yard equipment dealers and while each new one is better they all break down at least once a year even when checked out in the fall.
I work them very hard but it seems as long as you are beating on them they keep on ticking, once you let them sit the kniffer bearing gremlins sneak in.

Sounds like us and the power washer that is in use at least once or twice a week. Husband always seems to be doing something to get its attention.
I have my AC on. That makes me grumpy because this is one of the months that I should be saving money with utilities. Not complaining tho. Im so busy right now, I dont need mother nature getting in my way. I need 11 more days. LOOOOOOOOOOONG days. Blinking

Corpus Christi has issued statements to all residents and businesses to discontinue use of tap water citywide until further notice.

"Only bottled water should be used for all drinking, beverage and food preparation, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, or clothes, washing hands, and bathing until further notice. Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine, or other disinfectants, or letting the water stand will not make the water safe"

Can anyone guess where the issue lies....? The industrial district! Yay oil refineries! Not only generating and outpouring tons of gases into the environment, but now they have indefinitely contaminated our water supply! Yay! Thumbs down

You should see the lines and lines of people out at the stores. School is canceled, businesses closed...it's like the water apocalypse down here. Stores are getting emergency shipments of water shipped down from San Antonio and Houston. They just stated on the news that they are sending police forces out to Sam's Club, Walmarts, Walgreens, CVS', etc. because things are getting a little crazy. Meanwhile, I'm at work wondering what on Earth I am going to have for dinner...

Holy cow, James. I assume it is proven that the oil industry is the culprit. Oil and gas exploration/recovery/refinery has been Texas' largest industry for many, many decades. What's the cause of this contamination after about 100 years of your huge oil and gas industry? Just an inquiring mind here, you understand.
