We were out of town yesterday, stopped at a light that was yellow, the light turned red -- and the next thing a large pickup truck with a big enclosed utility trailer went blasting by us and right through the intersection, followed by another large pickup truck! Thankfully no one on the cross street took off quickly when their light turned green or we would have been way too close for comfort to whatever might have happened. I was half expecting to see a cop car come through with the sirens blaring, in pursuit of those vehicles

Our 10-year-old front-load washer died a couple of weeks ago and we debated over "repair or replace," but finally concluded that a repair would more than likely involve some expensive circuit board and that we'd be better off to get a new one. Decided on a Samsung high-efficiency top-loader, which is supposed to create a lot less vibration than the front-loaders. It was also on sale at Lowes, and they gave us free delivery and setup, even though we're beyond the normal free delivery area, because we purchased the extended service agreement (which we had planned to do anyway). Whatever it does will be better than having to tote the laundry to the laundromat...

Just had a call from our friends in DeLand, who checked out the house -- tree across the driveway and a couple of other trees down, lots of debris which is to be expected but no damage to the house. The power is still out but hoping that it will be restored before everything thaws out in the freezer. That is a small price to pay, however, for not having incurred damage to the house. DH is probably happy that with several more trees gone, there will be less leaves for him to deal with.
