Hi, new here too.

Wow, I really enjoy seeing the birds from all over. And I just learned more than I knew before about turkey vultures.

Looking forward to seeing more bird pictures and I'll see if I can get some of my own. Nothing too remarkable around here, but there is a pair of nesting blue jays who visit my yard daily.

Congrats to Philip and Melanie and Char (I'll leave off the gramma part). That milkweed is really cool looking!

Christine we're glad you stumbled across this thread! Welcome! Welcome!

Hi Laurel! Welcome to ATP! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! We're glad you found this thread too! We don't care what the bird is, we find them all remarkable so snap those photos & post them even if it's Jays every day. Bird lovers are bird lovers right?

We have been home almost a week and no cardinal bashing at the windows. Maybe he got tired of our windows and went somewhere else. I sincerely hope we have seen the last of him. Crossing Fingers!

Welcome ~ Laurelca! Hurray!

So, back to vultures and what we just learned about them from GrammaChar. Just a bit ago the dogs were barking at the edge of the woods so went to see what they were barking at. They kept looking up in the trees, so I start looking around and realize I'm standing right under a vulture with my mouth wide open. Rolling on the floor laughing I closed my mouth and moved real quick! hahaha

We have a pile of tree debris piling up and there are all kinds of birds going in and out of it.

This thread is so entertaining! I have some really nice bird photos, but since we seem to be on a roll with the "uglies", has anyone else seen one of these???? I don't know what's wrong with this poor cardinal.....

ChristineW and Laurel, Welcome! Looking forward to your photos... Thumbs up

Jean, great photos - I especially love the first one - is that a leaf or an insect in her beak?

Christine, vulture crisis! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I'm so glad you closed your mouth! Hilarious!

Beautiful little bird - some kind of nuthatch? (completely guessing, our nuthatches have that kind of eye-makeup). I'm sure someone will enlighten me!

And well done to Philip, Melanie and GrammaChar Hurray! Hurray! I tip my hat to you.

@cliftoncat I'm not sure. I was so startled to see the bird there, I barely came to my senses long enough to snap a picture. By really enlarging it, I still can't tell whether it is a leaf or a worm.

I was happy this morning to see that the Townsend's Warblers have returned, and the Tree swallows were checking out the bird boxes. So I decided I had better get out there and set up the bird baths, I had lots of scraping to get last years crud and mineral deposits off. Next I will set up the fountain, still too early to fill it with water as we may get a hard freeze yet. I also put a Hummingbird feeder out, it's early as they don't usually show up until about the 20th, but the weather has been so nice the trees are starting to bud.

Melanie, great report, thank you! Thumbs up

Welcome! Welcome! @Laurelca @cward10134 So nice to have new people dropping! Welcome!

Regarding Bluebirds, here they do not visit the feeders but they have always enjoyed the bird bath. I see them the most usually in the fall as the summer birds are leaving and the yard becomes less busy.

I mentioned that I went back that same evening and got a few more shots of the adult Bald Eagle. The immature eagle did not come back to the perch tree. This is the best one I got. Not bad at all since it was still raining. I am hoping to go back over on a nice evening soon and hopefully get some more!
