Real nice pics of Bartzella, Alex! Of all the itohs that I grow, my favorite one is still Bartzella. I love its bright yellow color and huge size! Is your camera color off or something?

It is an old one and colors are not exactly right sometimes. I got a new one and will get it back once my daughter is back from Europe. I was really looking forward to see Smith Family Yellow blooms this year, but unfortunately there are none.

That is so weird. Your camera does not capture yellow well but it captured your Old Faithful red beautifully!

Red is also tricky, but sometimes if exposure is right so is the color.

I had better pics of May Treat (beautiful this year!) and Command Performance (GINORMOUS flower, 2nd year plant) but don't know what happened to them....I'll keep looking.

I recently noticed the beauty of Mary Gretchen on Planet Peony photos. Very nice pics, Liz! Not so much hail this year?

I really love the color of your Mary Gretchen Liz! I think it is just a gorgeous pink. Is it a vigorous plant? I looked it up in the Carsten database and found that one of its parent is Salmon Dream.

Lots of great peonies have Salmon Dream in their parentage, as well as Lemon Chiffon and Old Faithful. They tend to have great offspring.

My NOID finally opened yesterday and I think it is very similar to Solange. Finally decided to have some cut flowers because obviously it is not a landscaping specimen.

It makes a pretty cut flower, Alex. Not as much hail this year so far, at least not large sized hail. Mary Gretchen was a very slow starter, seemed to stay small for quite a bit longer than the peonies surrounding it. It's a short peony anyway but it seemed to stay just a few inches tall for weeks. Next thing I knew it had around 10 small buds on it! Pinched off all except 3, all opened but faded very quickly. The blooms were absolutely perfect but small. Can certainly see Salmon Dream in it. A lot of my foliage was damaged by the big snow we had the first weekend in May, Mary Gretchen was up late enough not to be impacted.

I've been taking lots of pics, just haven't had time to get them uploaded. I think you'll all experience my bloom season and the majority of the pics I took at the peony convention over the next few months, just traveling too much this spring and summer to get them organized. I have had more first time blooms this year than ever before, some disappointments as well, though. Have several Itohs that are starting to open, hopefully I can catch them tomorrow or Friday before it gets dark because I'm flying out yet again on Saturday....hate travel during peony season!

Unfortunately Blonde Vision isn't going to make it to bloom this year, buds never increased. I think I was too cover crazy this spring and didn't uncover it quickly enough as the weather warmed up. Pastelegance only has one bud, not sure if I'm going to be here when it opens. Sonoma Halo, Cora Louise, Impossible Dream and several other Itohs look very healthy but don't have a single bud. It's been a pretty good year with less hail than normal but several disappointments....

Liz, hopefully they'll bloom for you when they're more mature! Group hug

My Bartzella only bloomed once the 1st few years after it was planted, then this year was amazing with 11 blooms. My 2nd Yumi, from a potted plant took 2 years to bloom, and had 4-5 gorgeous blooms this year.

I look forward to seeing your Itohs bloom, especially Pastelegance!

That is ok Liz! So sorry that they are not growing well due to CO's wacky weather. I am glad to hear that at least your itohs are doing well. Hope they will bloom well.

Good thing is they look healthy, just not impressed with bud count! They're getting more stems every year as well so in a year or two they should all be very impressive. I do have buds on a significant number of Itohs, hopefully they'll wait until I get back to open....
