yes indeed! I had a record number of chimeras! More still to post. The wacky weather really stressed the iris out.

Durham Dream gave me a couple of oddities.

Does anyone know what these little half formed blooms coming off the side of a bloom are called? I had a few of these this year. Are they just unformed double socketed blooms?

I don't know what that's called. I had those single petaled blooms. That was weird.

And you made ME laugh, too! Hilarious!

Probably a result of colder weather while the flowers were forming.

Well, here is my best bloom from Fuzzy Wuzzy Rocket. The horns and flounces were well developed on all the blooms, but they were all missing bits of those other important parts - standards and falls. Sighing! Maybe next year.

Did anyone ever have a rhizome that puts up multiple bloom stalks?

Yes, that is all from one big rhizome of Serena Louisa. I had that happen to few irises and the rhizomes exhausted themselves and are now hollow husks with no increases. Thanks for the show, but I'd rather you sent out increases, then bloom next year.

That is amazing that all the stalks bloomed. If it happened again would you cut some of the stalks off so it didn't bloom itself out?

Wow! Iris on steroids! Was there anything different that it was exposed to prior to blooming?

I've had a few throw multiple stalks from one rhizome.....for me, Clarence does it quite often, and Belvi Queen *sometimes*. I'd always felt it was a response to the extra fertilizer, and water..but that's just a guess, on my part Shrug! . As to cutting the extra stalks....once they've started...cutting won't" save" the stalk until another year, but, it *might* conserve enough energy to help shoot a few increases. When I have one that blooms, without increase, I cut the stalk about halfway up, so I don't damage any of the leaves, and give it just a "touch" of 10-10-10....maybe a teaspoon full, as close to the rhizome as I can get it, without actually touching it, and make sure it stays 'damp"....if the soil gets dry to the 2" deep level....water it.....and they almost always will start a few increase.

I'll try that Arlyn, thanks. Thumbs up

I was also thinking of disturbing (digging up and replanting) a single rhizome in Spring to try and break it out of it's bloom cycle.

That first iris is crazy pretty.

I am also intrigued by all the falls on the dark purple and white plicata, and how one fall is not like the rest.

Thumbs up Nice chimeras.
